Carnival Celebration

Sail date: July 09, 2023

Ship: Carnival Celebration

Review summary

We booked this cruise about a month before and instantly regretted it when we got on board. The ship was booked till 120%. 6450. For the same money we could have gone on a Oasis ship with a classier crowd. We gave Carnival another try after a 3 year hiatus but sadly same result. We will stick to NCL ,RCL and Celebrity.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Arrived later than everyone else so very easy getting on board

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Bars were extremely full ,hard to get drink. Restaurants were full so regularly waiting up to 80 min for a table.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Roller-coaster was cool but pools were extremely packed.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Pretty good shows.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Since so many passengers they were overworked. Room Stewart was great

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Beautiful ship, just way to many people so elevators constantly overloaded and had to wait for any elevator to squeeze into constantly.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We had a balcony cabin and it was small. Bathroom were small and smelled constantly. Compared to other cruiselines this was disappointing.

Ship tip

Don't go. Our sailing has 6450 people. Way to many for that size ship. Everything was crowded and dining had waits of up to 2 hrs. Very disappointing cruise Sad because it's a new beautiful ship.

Ports of call

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
We did the French Island excusion and it was absolutely awesome. Beach, kayaks, lunch (Surprisingly good). AND cheap beer

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Got out of the terminal and explored the beach town Super nice and authentic Mexico

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
We had a jeep excursion and the very first stop was a tourist trap. Then drive through rough terrain to another tourist trap.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Thank God we had U.S. passports but if you just had a birth cert. then you are waiting in at least a 2 hr line.

Sorry to see that the Celebration wasn’t to your standards. My husband and I had a B2B on her and loved it!

@AFE , Ship sails at 120% when there is more than 2 people in a cabin. 100% is considered only 2 people in cabin.

@TNTGreen..We had My Time Dining. It was not clear to us that going at 6 would be seated right away but then what's the point of My Time Dining if you can't go at the time you want?

Sorry you were disappointed with most of your cruise.

100%occupancy is every cabin with 2 people. 120%is standard and the new ICON of the Seas is set up for 135% IIRC. 100%capacity is every lifeboat seat filled. This is never exceeded.

The news flash here is that apparently the other cruise lines aren't actually also sold to and beyond capacity in the middle of summer with all the same issues this brings. This will certainly be news to their stockholders.

How can a ship be booked at 120%?

TNTGreen    1 year ago

Did you have assigned dining or Your Time? If you did not have YTD if you wanted to eat in a specialty restaurant (Cucina, Chibang, etc) they won’t seat you until 7:30pm. If you wanted to go to Chibang at 6pm with YTD you would just request it on the app.
