No one really wants to jump through all the current hoops required to get on a cruise ship these days, but they get us back to sailing. It has been 3 years since our last cruise, and we were happy to be able to sail again, in an environment that felt safer that pretty much anywhere else right now. I’ll take it.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation has become very slick and efficient; have all the necessary paperwork ready, and you can practically walk straight on to the ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Steakhouse remains outstanding, and Guy’s burgers are still some of the best at sea. Discovered the grouper fingers at the Red Frog Pub this trip, and they are truly outstanding, though the seafood in most other venues was over cooked. Service times were fairly quick, but the ship was clearly not at full capacity.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Plenty of things to do on board, but the pools need some work. Anti-slip surfaces around to pool are needed, and maybe a hand railing or two. I slipped coming out of one of the pools, and have a badly strained muscle in my thigh to show for it. Worse, it was another pax that came to my aid (on vacation EMT); Carnival employees had a hard time finding me a bag of ice, let alone rendering any actual aid. More training is needed for the staff in the pool areas, especially with the slippery deck conditions.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We really enjoyed all the entertainment, from the comedians, to the shows, to the live music.
Children's Programs
Not traveling with any children
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
With the exception of the above-mentioned incident, the staff were friendly and helpful throughout the ship. Even with masks on, you could tell they were smiling when they’d greet you.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The Breeze is showing her age in some areas; she’s ready for a dry dock and a little bit of a refresh.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Other than being a little smaller than some of the cabins we’ve cruised in before, our stateroom was clean and comfortable.
Ship tip
Have the grouper fingers in the Red Frog Pub; yes, there’s an up charge (~$3.33), but they might just be the tastiest, best cooked piece of fish on the entire ship. Absolutely amazing!
Cozumel has plenty to do, without too much effort to find it. We walked to the El Cid resort for a beach break, and ran into a bunch of Carnival staff there. Food and drinks were good, pool was nice, and the convenient location a plus.
Progreso can be a great port, if you are willing to put in a little work to find adventure. There are many amazing Mayan ruins sites within 60-120 minutes of the port, and cenotes litter the region. There are some fantastic tour operators that can provide you an authentic, local experience that is absolutely worth it.
