Review summary

Out of the cruises that I have been on this is by far the worst experience that I have ever had.  Normally on a cruise it is exquisitely clean and that was not the case on this ship at all.  Also most the staff on a regular cruise tend to have a lot of energy and excitement again not the case here.  I do want to state that the cleanliness was not 100% on the staff of this ship and a lot of the mess was due to the insane amount of unruly teens and children running around the ship unsupervised creating mess everywhere. (it was so bad we took photos)  The mess that was on the staff was the fact that the tables in the Lido deck were constantly loaded with dirty dishes and staff would just walk by and ignore it leaving messy tables when we came in to dine.  In the room hallways there were dirty plates, bowls, left over food ect for long periods of time.  In the Ovation theatre there were lights out throughout the whole room.

The wait staff walking around sometimes were friendly and sometimes seemed like we were a bother to even deal with. Again, I will state that the fact that there were SO MANY teens unaccompanied by adults running around, making messes, splashing around in the hot tubs all day and night, defacing property, hitting every button in the elevator, 5 year olds ordering sodas at the bar, etc. that this made the trip even less enjoyable.

Next the food at dinner.  While the presentation of certain dishes was beautiful many dishes lacked any real flavor and often were misrepresented on the menu.  I remember one dish said Tiger Prawn shrimp and they weren't tiger prawns but just regular small/medium sized shrimp.  When a dish said it was served with Garlic herbed fries what came out was what seemed liked bagged frozen dry french fries. Just major misrepresentations on the menu.  Then any items that seemed like they would be really good were *surprise, surprise* extra costs including other restaurants on the ship.  The 24 hour pizza place always had a line a mile long due to 2 staff people working making 1-2 pizzas at a time.

BINGO was a joke because "money, money, money Martin" was horrible at what he does. He has no ability to draw in his crowd but rather make you irritated.
Also, the shows in the evening left a lot to be desired. The dance moves and singing were lackluster at best and many singers were way off tune or flat, and the song selection wasn't the best. But the special effects were great. and stage design was phenomenal. The hypnotist was a joke I would know because I was on the stage and he had to ask half of the people up there to sit because none were really hypnotized.  The one's that remained faked it to be on stage.

Our room was horribly noisy.  We were in a balcony room in room 6337.  Right outside of the jacuzzi so I couldn't go out on my deck for privacy but instead felt like a creeper staring at the people in the jacuzzi.  In the evening We could hear everything happening in the casino below to the wee hours of the morning.  The weather the last 3 days was rainy (obviously not the fault of carnival) and the shipped was horribly rocky making us nauseated. Just adding to the bad experience

The end of the week party that cruise ships always have was also the worst.  They called it a fiesta!  A fiesta comprises of more than a DJ blaring music and a chips and salsa bar.  I've never seen a cruise ship go so cheap on a party the last evening at see.  This is where you're supposed to pull out all the stops.  and all we get is chips and salsa!??  Cruise ships from the past=whole roasted pigs, amazing ice and fruit sculptures, delicious desserts.

This is not to say that everything on the ship was awful it did have some redeeming qualities thus not a one star review.

First there needs to be a major shout out to Matt (the cruise director)  He is by far the absolute best cruise director I've ever experienced on a cruise.  He deserves every dime that he could ask for and you need to break your backs to keep him.

Next our servers at dinner (IMade and Eli were fantastic, they always looked out for a our table and were energetic and fun)

-Third, Kat from the UK was wonderful! She really had a bright and bubbly personality that was welcoming. Thank you Kat

-Fourth, Guy's Burger joint on the ship was great. Amazing Burgers and Handcut Fries

-And last, the strings trio was amazing! Every night we eagerly awaited the performance they put on for us. They sounded wonderful.

Overall, Carnival lost a lot of respect from both myself and the other 6 passengers traveling with me. Even though we cruise every year, it might be a long time before we even think to use carnival as our vacation destination. They will really have to prove to me that there is something better than the low quality they gave us for the last week before I change my mind.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Mediocre

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Seemed every event was a push to spend more money

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Low level entertainment (not award winning as they say) at least not in these performances.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Kids and teens running everywhere unsupervised

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Cruise director, Dinner waitstaff, along with 1 other excluded from frown.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Messy dining, Dining room at lunch smelt like dirty mop water. Waitstaff would walk by dirty dishes on our table or many tables were messy when we came in to dine.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Room was right outside of the jacuzzi down below so you had no privacy on your balcony. If you walked out you felt like a creeper staring down at the people in the jacuzzi. You could hear the casino right below you at all hours of the night and everyone making noise down there.

Ship tip

Just read the review above it will tell most everything.

Holy crap that's a huge difference. I don't blame for changing. That amount is worth dealing with kids. Lol. Have fun. 😎🚢

nancygal    8 years ago

$30 difference is all we paid to switch the cruise, but paid $445 less for airfare. I know it makes no sense. we'll have fun no matter how many kids.

TeresaC1963    8 years ago

Hmm. Lol. March and April have the highest cruise rates. Feb rates aren't too bad on the cruises. I haven't booked airlines in a long time in Feb...too much winter weather to delay flights. Lol

nancygal    8 years ago

airlines and Carnival both told me that

TeresaC1963    8 years ago

Nancy I'm sure there will be a lot more kids Mar 12 than Feb 13. Not sure why anyone said Feb 13 was Spring Break. That generally runs in Mar or April.

Weber7    8 years ago

I hear ya ! airfare for March 25 (day early) return April 3rd is crazy right now! I hope it goes down. I sailed the Breeze 2 yrs ago with my son spring break and don't recall it being so much.

nancygal    8 years ago

we were scheduled to go Feb. 13th, but we live north of Seattle and the as irfste that week was so high, we were told it was spring break week, so we changed to March 12th. airfare was much cheaper and hopefully not a lot of kids

Jackie111    8 years ago

yeah that's how I'm looking at it also it is what you make of it i know it will be great no matter what the numbers are at 100 days now let the count down begin

Weber7    8 years ago

I'm sailing on the Breeze on those dates also. I'm sure their will be a lot if kids. Just don't worry about it and do your own thing :) Its your vacation too ENJOY !!!!!! , I know I will

Jackie111    8 years ago

what do you think the ratio of kids to adults the week of 3/26/16 8-day out of miami will be usually I cruise Feb or Apr first time in march

christianbryce123    8 years ago

that's what us kids do. :) were on a cruise to have a good time and have people take good care of us, not being humiliated by adults about what we want to do. & kids are able to order drinks at the bar, nothings wrong with that.😂

glad your burger was good!

We're going weekend after New Years this year (1/9) - a week earlier than last 2 years so the 4 college kids can come. Hopefully there won't be too many more kids than the following week.

sweetliberty13    8 years ago

csrudderham - you nailed it. These school age children with minimal or no parental supervision can be a real pain. WE have run up against it when we have sailed the week before Christmas and the week after New Years. Pushing ours this year to the end of January, assuming that most of the school agers will actually be in school.

TeresaC1963    8 years ago

No. I'm going on May 1st. I'm on the last Breeze cruise out of Miami.

cruiserok    8 years ago

@TeresaC1963, are you going on the breeze May 22nd?

TeresaC1963    8 years ago

I completely understand. 😎. I'm in OKC by the way.

cruiserok    8 years ago

I'm by Tulsa. I don't have any problems with college age, it's the 12ish ages cussing ppl, running races in the halls at midnight, toilet paper fights in the bathrooms that's the kind of stuff I don't want to deal with on a daily basis on a cruise. some parent just turn their kids lose on a cruise with a walkie talkie and hope they'll be good.

TeresaC1963    8 years ago

@csrudderham. Where in OK are you? Trent is correct about colleges....almost all are out by either the first or 2nd weekend of May

cruiserok    8 years ago

Hopefully not too many, many Oklahoma schools are going until the 26th.

trentandjackie    8 years ago

Many schools are out by May 22. Certainly there will be lots of college age kids cruising before a summer job or before starting their careers.

cruiserok    8 years ago

With the amount of kids on the cruise ships when school is out probably wears the staff out and they just get tired of cleaning up after unruly messy kids. We went during spring break one time, we will never do that again. There were more kids than adults, and very rarely were there any adults with the kids. I can't wait to go on the breeze in May, before school gets out.

trentandjackie    8 years ago

We've been on Breeze the last 2 Januarys & will be on Glory next month. Notice a pattern - when kids are in school. Talked with a woman that works with the kids. She said there were 450 kids on board but during peak tines there are 1700! 450 you barely notice them. We had a great time both years with 2 totally different groups.

TeresaC1963    8 years ago

Why were you surprised by the restaurants that charged extra? Carnivals website is clear on what is included and what is extra.

Pineapplet53    8 years ago

I was on the Breeze Nov 5-15, some food in dinning room lacked flavor. Those shrimp were small, not tiger. Entertainment was great. Didn't like the magic show, I left he was boring. Matt was the Bomb. Love him. Ship was very clean. My cruise won a free cruise. We r going on Pride, April 3!

sloopjohnb53    8 years ago

If you do your homework, you will know ahead of time what costs extra. Then there are no surprises.

Weber7    8 years ago

In the future do your research on a cabin selection. I have cruised the Breeze 3 times & have 4th booked for March & it was always clean . Also on the Lido Buffet dinning I could hardly make it out of the room without a staff member clearing my table / wiping it down. The majority of the food was fine with me and if not their was always plenty of other options to choose from. Kids gone wild that's on the parents not Carnival. I loved the steakhouse Filet Mignon and it was worth the extra $ to me. I'm going for spring break with my 11 yr old son and can't wait to see all the kids having a wonderful time on vacation. Idk if the arcade , circle C , waterworks etc etc ... is designed for kids but I pretty sure Carnival caters to kids aswell as adults . It's hard for me to grasp that people can go on an awesome vacation and put do much energy on focusing on the negatives ? Just puzzles me ! Try not to sweat the small stuff and chill , its vacation :)

What was the date of your cruise? We make it a point to never go when kids are out of school.
