Review summary

This was a great cruise, the first of many Caribbean cruises. Because of this cruise we soon made a habit of planning a Caribbean cruise as often as we could.

Embarkation

From what I can recall now it seemed pretty good, but not as good as more recent cruises. This definitely an area that has improved over the years.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
This was our first time on Caribbean Princess, and we loved it. Dining has also changed since 2006, and not all for the good. I know we enjoyed the main dining room and the buffet.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
My wife and son enjoyed the activities more than I did, but I was thrilled that they were entertained so that I could relax.

Terrace Pool

5 out of 5

I discovered the terrace pool on this trip and it has been my favorite spot on any Princess ship ever since. Perfect place to relax and read, or talk, or just watch the wake of the ship

Medical Center

5 out of 5

I developed blisters on my foot just before this cruise and they became infected. The medical staff were wonderful while treating the blisters every day.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We have enjoyed the entertainment on every Princess cruise.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Our son did not spend much time in kid's clubs.

Ship Quality

Loved it. Still like Caribbean's layout best of the Grand class.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
There wasn't a lot to be excited about. It was just a small inside cabin, but it was perfect for us at the time.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
This was our first time boarding a major cruise line ship at Port Everglades, and it went well. No problems that I recall.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
We loved snorkeling at Turtle cove. It was our first-time swimming with sea turtles. The Doubloon crew was terrific and the ride back to port was fun.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
I missed the snorkeling excursion at St. Marteen because of a minor injury but my wife and son enjoyed it. Later we found a parasail operation from the nearby beach for our son.

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

3 out of 5
Didn't really care much for Princess Cays the first time we were there, but we have learned to enjoy the beach and not expect more. It is a nice beach and the buffet lunch is always great. Just don't expect much more.
