Review summary

This was our second cruise so we tried to improve on our previous experience (also Princess), taking what we learned and tailoring what we did accordingly. We switched to anytime dining and enjoyed meeting different guests each meal. But also realized we didn't HAVE to eat in the dining room every night - sometimes got room service, other times ate meals at other venues around the ship - great variety. Cruises are a great opportunity to both try new things and completely unplug and we enjoyed doing both. Didn't succumb to temptation to "do it all". All in all a very enjoyable getaway and a little quieter since it's end of season. Two days at sea travelling to the Southern Caribbean - a good time to explore the ship and amenities. Three days at different Dutch Antilles islands - enjoyable excursions of every variety. And two days at sea coming back to Florida - settle into your routines of relaxing and enjoying the ship. We last cruised 5 years ago; some things have changed and not for the better, such as the huge push on shopping, particularly the Effie raffle events. Another annoyance was we were "comp'd" a speciality restaurant meal but they basically picked the restaurant and day/time and you couldn't change it though the literature implied you could use it anywhere. Also you need to book things like the Sanctuary as soon as you walk on the ship or you will be unable to use it at all the entire voyage.

Ship tip

Get some familiarity with the upper deck facilities online before you leave so you waste less time wandering aimlessly trying to find stuff

Going home we had to wait at the airport all day which seemed designed to "encourage" you to drop some tourist dollars in Florida - but no excursions of interest and I didn't feel like renting a car and "figuring it out" myself
