We wanted to book a future cruise but had to name a specific cruise and date to do so. Other cruise lines allow an open ended
future cruise which we needed to do because we have many other future cruises already booked. In addition, because of all
our problems on this cruise, we decided to forego any future Azamara cruises.
It also took us a week to get our onboard account available and straightened out. There were also many, many, miscommunications from Azamara. No one seemed to know what was going on and as a consequence we missed many on board events.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Had to get pre-tested but all went well and smoothly and embarkation was efficient.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
All were good with a couple of exceptions. Lamb shanks were exceptional, most other items were ho hum, and the escargots
(my favorite) were an entire miss. Looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner feast but could only find sliced white meat turkey. I don't care for white meat and certainly missed the cranberries, dressing, etc. that goes with my traditional T Day dinner. I don't recall ever having such a limited offering. There was some pumpkin pie offerings as I recall.
Buffet offerings never did provide typical American breakfast sausage links or patties. Overall there were limited offerings available but that is quite understandable with only 360 passengers on board. They just can't provide everything that a 5000 passenger ship has to offer.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Rock climbing walls, etc. are non existent (fortunately).
Pools were available and quite adequate.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Asst. cruise director singing was fantastic!
Guest lecturer was fascinating! True quality!
Children's Programs
No rug rats on board.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service personnel were all exceptional. Some of the best in all our many, various cruises.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Design: It's an old ship and there were problems.
Flooding in HC bathrooms. A severe and unaddressed problem for HC customers. Accessible customers need to verify adequate drainage BEFORE booking an HC cabin.
Extremely high thresholds throughout the ship. If you're on a mobility scooter, you are likely to get high centered on the apex if you go too slowly. If you drive faster for the crossing, you will be jarred severely on the ridge entrance, the ridge apex and on the exit. At the same time you must have someone else hold the massive door open for your transit.
One woman was actually thrown off her scooter trying to make
the transit. This is another handicapped problem that is not being addressed. It is also a problem for service personnel who are trying to transit through doorways while holding the door open and trying to push through a cart full of dishes without spilling the load.
Otherwise, the ship has beautiful decor and was very clean.
Maintenance and upgrades are way past overdue!
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
This is a handicapped cabin. Size was a bit on the small side but basically adequate. The settee was placed in a corner (by necessity) and only 2/3 was available for sitting.
Likewise the coffee table was placed against the wall (by necessity) and only available on one side.
The monochromatic grey walls had absolutely no pictures on them creating a rather dismal effect overall.
Cleanliness was exceptional with great cabin stewards!
BEWARE: This cabin and other HA cabins have a very serious, unresolved problem with bathroom flooding! After showering, the entire bathroom will be flooded. Subsequent use of toilet or vanity will require sloshing through the standing water.
The floor is essentially flat overall and does not drain well.
Shower water drains throughout the entire bathroom.
This could very well cause additional slipping and falling hazard for those with limited mobility. Buyer beware!
