We love Azamara among the other cruise companies for the small size of the ship, the good food, the great cabins, the excellent service, and the great ports of call they have chosen. We generally do not mind the lesser quality of onboard activities, and shows provided on the Pursuit but have suggested they increase the quality of these activities.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Lacking a brasilian visa, our cruise almost did not take place. A Brave Hotel director decided to let us on the ship and to apply for the Visa whils going to Uruguay
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The buffet was a delight, the main dining room food and service was great, Azamara tries to excel in service provided and this was evident most of the time.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Used the pool, the spa, and set up a special party onboard. All went well here. The list of avialable liquer beverages is more than adequate. Onboard shuffleboard, ping-pong, and word and sudoku games, as well as bingo were available but we did not participate herein.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
During our trip, there were three shows that excelled, a mentalist did two of them, and a Samba show the last day was also excellent. The rest of the shows left much to be desired. The onbourd musicians were good in the lounges and on stage when they performed, but the entertainment director used them more than he should have for evening entertainment.
Children's Programs
No children with us. This ship does not cater the children
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
The room steward were attentive to all our needs but, unlike our prior experience on Azamara Journey, they did not address us by name. The dirnk service in the buffet was sporadic early in the cruise, but improved over the course of the cruise experience. Service in the main dining room excelled.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
This ship celebrated its first birthday since being refurbished. The layout was good, the ship utilized the space very well and was one we have booked again.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We did not feel as cramped as we have on other cruise ships. The bed was comfortable; the bathroom was small but adequate and the shower was a pleasure though small. The veranda was comfotable to use and we used it a lot as a result.
Ship tip
Expect great service. Book cabins on Deck seven as it is halfway between Decks 5 and 9 where most activity takes place.
We stayed here for two days prior to departure. It was inexpensive and the Tango exposure was delightful. Our Hilton Hotel Anselmo was on a square in which Tango took place daily.
Our excursion was poor, We had to spend most of the second day acquiring our Brazilian Visa, but had to chance to visit a leather clothing factory and buy extraordinary leather jackets reasonably priced for both me and my wife.
Two days here allowed us to take a great tour highlighting the architecture of Nierman as well as a tour of this BIG city with trips to its highlights such as the large statue of Jesus and sugar loaf mountain, both heritage sights.
