Review summary

I would say that I had a great cruise, despite of, rather than because of, Azamara. It attracts friendly, diverse passengers, and i like the scale of the ship. the staff is wonderful (although obviously feeling very stressed by increased sanitation provisions) One disapointment - increasing stratification of passenger experiences according to cabin type. And the world cruisers were given so much attention, it detracted from the services available to normal passengers.

Embarkation

i was back to back so NA, hiowever the interior gate to gate transport at Lima port was abysmal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Ranged from inedible to fabulous. Happy with some new , healthier additions at breakfast time. There were peculiar issues with food shortages - saltine crackers in wrappers with the cheese, no berries most the voyage, no mushrooms 2nd half of cruise. Had the most amazing grouper fresh caught in Pitcairn which was the best meal of the voyage and some of the freshest fish ever consumed.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Not much of one for "activities" so I'm not a reliable source. The lecturers were very engaging, and the acts brought in were also good. Not a huge fan of the shows produced in house. The cast and musicians are talented but the productions are somewhat sophmoric.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
See above. Do wish the DJ was actually a dj in the contempoary sense and not just a human being playing abba, and Sweet Caroline and other favorites from the 70's.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The shining star of Azamara

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Entirely too much maintenance going on while on board at my favorite place on the ship - the promenade deck. Lots of rust, and corrosion visible in areas. An unfortunate leak created a huge waterfall through a rear stair well and subsequent days of noisy fans and closed passages. Not the ship's "fault" , I guess. I do like the design of the ship . It's cozy.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
i like the window cabins but did have annoying noise from the promenade deck movement of chairs - the sound of furniture being shoved around rather than rolled or picked up, despite repeated requests to do so. Bed/bedding very comfortable. Staff very conscientious about cleaning.

Ship tip

It's not like it used to be. New management has become very difficult to deal with regarding fair practices relating to reimbursements, OBC to make up for prices changing, etc. I used to be able to sail with them without spending an extra cent on quite decent quality. Now there are lots of upchares, i.e. exactly what one comes to Azamara to avoid.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
i left the ship the evening before disembarkation . I had a very heavy bag, plus another couple of smaller bags. It was about a quarter mile walk to the street for a taxi. A porter with a luggage carrier was at the bottom of the ramp, but said he couldn't help me and walked off.
