We thoroughly enjoyed our Azamara ‘Journey’ and would do it again, on a different route, just for a change. Highly recommended for the ship, amenities, food and drinks, staff, and ports of call.

Ship tip
don ‘t sail with anyone else! The ship is small, so it has an uncrowded, intimate atmosphere.
our excursion to the Knossos Palace was a disappointment. There is little to see, except for a few small structures that are reconstructions. Not worth the time or money.
The town of Thera (?) was worth visiting, we had a nice lunch overlooking the ocean, rode the cable car down. BUT: the excursion was our major let-down of the entire trip. We signed up for a hike around the caldera; it was listed as ‘strenuous’. We are pretty good hikers, but we did not find out until we were on the bus that the ‘hike’ was 7 miles long and uphill for the first 2 miles, and over broken, uneven cobblestones followed by a gravel path then just slippery dirt. ‘Strenuous’ doesn’t begin to describe that tour - I would say ‘brutal’. We had to be rescued via a taxi (provided by Azamara at no charge, for which, thanks) after about 2 miles. We were done! The actual conditions of this excursion should be spelled out much more clearly to potential customers.
Very good, well, apart from the small detail that it wasn’t clear what location the disembarkation was from. It’s starboard side, deck 3, but you can’t get there from the port side without going to starboard side and then down to level 3. There were a lot of confused passengers milling around like us, asking each other ‘where do we get off?’ Better instructions and signage are needed.
