We are a retired couple from Philadelphia. We have always enjoyed traveling and this was my dream trip. I choose the Seine cruise so that I could see Paris and my husband Normandy. Avalon is a wonderful line. The staff was wonderful in every way. All of the tour guides were enteraining and insightful. The staff was prepared for everything including bad weather. River cruising is a wonderful way to see at least part of a country. I highly recommend this cruise and Avalon.
Embarkation

We were met at airport and had an easy transfer. We arrived a few hours early and they had a light lunch waiting for us. Our cabins were ready by a little after 2:00PM which was earlier than what we anticipated.

We were usually too tired to appreciate any entertainment. The classical group I did hear was lovely, but that was in the afternoon.

Ship tip
We had never been on a river cruise before. For us it was probably once in a lifetime and was costly. We depended on reviews and the stops that were available. Avalon met all of our needs.
We took advantage of the illumination tour, city bus tour, and Monmartre tour which we added later. The illumination tour was by far a delight at the Effiel Tower. I felt like I was ten years old. The city bus tour was good since my husband and I would be spending four days in Paris at the end of our cruise. We were able to access the lay of the land. Montmartre was made very easy to get to. Since we have some mobility issues the tour worked well for us.
The tour itself was very educational and moving. We realize you can't do everything, but we fit as much in as we could going to the American cementary and the museum. The lunch break was extremely well organized. The tour guide made sure there was enough commentary on the ride, but also allowed for a rest period. It was a long day, but a lovely day.
I was excited to visit this city and was under the impression we had the entire day here. Unfortunately we had to back at the ship by noon and left. This was the one place where there were many restaurants and shops and couldn't take advantage of it.
