We were somewhat hesitant to start our European travel with a cruise as the "main" feature. This Avalon River cruise through Paris to Normandy was a great experience. The river boat's crew and the clever rooms and cleanliness was well worth the trip. We found good history and friendly people throughout the trip. We would try another river cruise of this type.

Amazing ports of call provide opportunity to "feel" historic events in authentic surroundings. Local guides demonstrate wide-spread knowledge, enthusiastic narration, and personal warmth and interaction with cruise guests.

"Cruise Director" assumed a curious role. He did not appear to ever leave the ship, and displayed little effort to get to know but a relatively few guests. Other, similar, cruise lines have Director in the field with local guides.

Beds were particularly comfortable. Food plentiful, but not very variable.

Ships crew personable and friendly. Ship facilities excellent.

Delightful, educational, and enriching cruise.

From the moment I stepped on board, I was pleased by the service and courteousness of the crew.  The ship was elegant and comfortable, the food was wonderful, and the itinerary kept me interested in every part of the cruise.  All our off ship excursions had wonderful tour guides that spoke English.  I don't speak French, but there was never a problem with this in any of the towns we visited. 

I really feel that it was an excellent value for the cost of the trip.   

This was my first river cruise, and I called my travel agent the day after I returned to book one next year.
