Review summary

A so-so cruise is still better than no cruise. The changes to Anthem from Quantum were disappointing. The shows were excellent.

Food and Dining

We loved the dynamic dining on the Quantum and were looking forward to it on the Anthem. Instead of having 4 separate restaurants with separate menus and dynamic seating they have 4 restaurants with the same menu and assigned seating. Without dynamic dining the Anthem is just another large RCCL ship. Also, though not new for this cruise, the $7.95 charge for room service takes away a major enjoyment of cruising.

"We Will Rock You" was fantastic. As was Spectra Cabaret in 270. The third show (I don't remember the name) was so loud and the singing not understandable that most people I talked to said they had no idea what the show was about.

This was a jr suite that could be combined with a single cabin next door. The layout was not like any Jr suite we have ever had. The cabin was basically square. The bathroom door was next to the bed and a little inconvenient. The closet was next to the 'dressing table' and could not be opened without disturbing anyone setting at that table. And as always there were not enough outlets. The balcony was where the bump meets the ship and was HUGE. I think it was bigger than the single cabin next to us.

Ship tip

I will never book another future cruise on-board. The new policy of non-refundable deposits and $100 charge to change a reservation makes me reluctant to book as far in advance as we usually do. The cruise 'salesman' did explain all of the ends and outs of the new policies, but after all was said and done I felt like I had been hustled. I felt better about buying my new car than I did booking a cruise.

As usual there was a long line trying to get through CPB screening. We used a porter who went around the lines of people handling their own luggage. Once outside we were directed to a taxi staging area which meant our porter had to wheel the cart around people being picked up and across a street to the staging lot.
