Review summary

This was our first river cruise and it far exceeded all of our expectations. There was not a single thing that was not perfectly executed. All of the crew were amazing and seemed to be genuinely nice people. Captain Patrick, our cruise manager Agnes, the Hotel manager Adile, the executive chef Agustinus, our maitre D Danilo, the purser Viktor, the first housekeeper Mariana and most importantly Ari our bartender and Tamas our musician whom with we ended each evening, were all over-the-top wonderful. We appreciated all the extra caring touches and especially loved that some of the crew (Tiago, Adile, Viktor, Agnes, Patrick) enjoyed dancing and socializing with us!

Embarkation

We took the Ama transfer from the airport to the ship. The Ama staff were easy to find at the well described airport location.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We are foodies and found the food to be superb. Even though breakfast and lunch were buffet, you always had the option to order from the menu, but we found no need as the buffet options were plentiful and delicious. The Chef's table was a wonderful alternative dining experience. I would highly recommend it.

Onboard Activities

We did not go in the pool although the water was warm. The fitness track was nice as well as the fitness class offerings. Tiago was great!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed all the entertainers, but especially Tamas who accommodated our requests and was so nice to chat with each evening.

Service and Staff

Everyone was extremely nice and friendly.

Ship Quality

Loved the layout, enjoyed our room which was well-designed. Never felt cramped and never felt that we did not have enough storage space. Thank you for a nice-sized bathroom. All areas were sparking clean and at all hours of the day.

Cabin / Stateroom

We were on the violin deck and had a room with a balcony and a french balcony with a large floor to ceiling window between the two. It was perfect.

Ports of call

Vilshofen, Germany

4 out of 5
There was not a lot to do in this port, but it was lovely. The Vilshofen Beerfest was wonderful and a very fun start to the trip.

Passau, Germany

We did the Castle Hill Hike and at the top you had a wonderful view of the rivers, Germany, and Austria. There was plenty of time after the hike to walk the town and grab a few beers.

Linz (Salzburg), Austria

5 out of 5
We took the full day Salzburg excursion that also stopped in Mondsee and finished with a walking tour of Linz. I would highly recommend the full day Salzburg tour. We arrived on a Sunday and many in the town were dressed in beautiful lederhosen and dirndls.

Vienna, Austria

5 out of 5
What is not to love about Vienna; it was wonderful. We did the walking tour, followed by the optional Schonbrunn Palace tour and the optional Mozart and Strauss concert. It was a long day, but all 3 were excellent.

Bratislava, Slovakia

4 out of 5
This was a nice city with many options to taste traditional food. We took the walking tour and it was nice that we had extra time to linger in the city center before walking back to the boat.

Budapest, Hungary

Beautiful city! If you are able, extend a few days here. We did the walking tour and then walked more on our own after the tour was over. The Illumination Cruise in the evening is not to be missed. It is even more beautiful than the pictures.

Disembarkation

Ama had an excellent plan with double checks in place to make sure the right person with the right luggage go to the right place. I was even surprised that an Ama representative met our bus at the airport to provide direction to each airlines.
