Review summary

I've cruised on several RCCL ships and thought that this trip would be fantastic.  I was wrong.  It was not all bad; there were some really good moments. The GOOD:  1) The Captain cruised us away from Hurricane Matthew - we had clear and beautiful weather every day. Kudos to him and his watchful staff.  2) The Entertainment (Mama Mia, Aqua Show and Comedian) was great.  3). Zip lining exhilarating if you've never done it (like me). The BAD: 1) The general food was mediocre at best.  The Specialty restaurants were far better because you had to PAY extra to eat there (Chops Grille was the BEST). 2) Formal night was overcooked lobster tails and the dining staff never bothered to remove the meat from the tails for us as they have done in the past.  It was the worst meal I've ever eaten on ship and I walked away from it. 3) Luggage delivery was ATROCIOUS. I was in a Grand Suite and my luggage was lost for several hours.  We all thought it was left at the dock.  When it was finally found, it was almost midnight.  Suite/Diamond/Pinnacle members should always receive their belongings first!  Our RCCL luggage tags denote the status of a passenger and these should be grouped together and serviced first.  4) Special service by the Concierge was mediocre at best: I'm guessing that their lack of enthusiasm was due to the number passengers who were concierge guests.

The BEST: 1) Being on vacation, AWAY from work, without a care in the world!

Would I continue with RCCL?  Yes!  Overall their service is great, but I won't travel on the Allure again.  I like personalized service and I just didn't receive it this time. 2) When we docked in Labadee for the day, RCCL off loaded TONS of food, blankets, supplies and such for Hurricane Matthew battered Haiti.  At least 30 trucks pulled up near the port to take the supplies to the mainland.  I don't know whether or not RCCL planned this from the beginning, but it was REALLY NICE to see the transfer of needed goods in action.  Made me feel like RCCL was giving back to this country.

Ship tip

Try the Zip-line. You'll either love it or hate, but you must try it.

The outdoor barbecue was hilarious. They labeled thin sliced pork chops as BBQ Ribs. Since when does a pork chop look like a rib?

I've been on the Allure and I'm going again in a month. I've had bad food on a cruise. The food on the Allure was great. Any ship can lose luggage. I have never been in a suite or had a personal attendant. I suppose if you pay for that you should expect the correct service. You might try the MSC Yacht Club. Just don't order vegetarian entrees in the dining room.

Great to hear about the supplies being delivered to Haiti!

Loved every minute on the Allure

I see in your cruise history you've been on the quantum class. How does that compare to the oasis class? What is your preference?

That's awesome, Denise! I usually gain 5 or 6 pounds a cruise. Ugh!😎

I also thought the food wasn't that great. We ate at Chops on the last night and the food was better but I have had better steaks from my own grill. Our service was great. Our room attendant was the nicest guy and helped every time I asked. Our luggage made it to our room before we did. We did so much walking that I only gained 3lbs.

This will be our second time on the allure had a great time on the first time on the allure can't wait our second time on the allure even though it is crowded ship and a lot of rude people

Read that RC employees 300 on Haiti and allows 200 local vendors in to sell in the market within their grounds. They also pay the gov't $6 per tourist. That adds up with all the ships that use it.

All of the bars are open until 1 or 2.

This was my first RCCL cruise. I was very disappointed in the food quality. Pretty much everything I ate had very little flavor. I was extremely disappointed that the pool bars closed at 10 PM, especially in the only smoking area on the boat. There was 20+ people smoking which were very thirsty... Sad when you can't have a cigar and an adult beverage past 10 PM on your cruise.

We have had an almost Perfect cruise on this same sailing (still on until tomorrow) speciality restaurants are the way to go with Royal but our experience has been awesome! Entertainment is awesome.

That was awesome of RCCL to do that for Haiti! I loved the Allure.

They drop off from every boat that hits the port, lost and found, donations, food, etc. They also stock and maintain there side of the fence.

First on/first off the ship is a perk for suite/diamond and above guests. The latest my baggage has been in my suites was 2:10. I send my formal ware to the cleaners with my cabin attendant to be pressed before the muster drill and it is my closet before 5:00 on day 2. We pay more for our suites and RCCL offers perks. We do not ask for them. RCCL rewards for loyalty.

Thanks for telling us about what RCCL did for the Haitians! They have been heavy on my heart & it's so good to hear that RCCL helped them out.😎👍

It makes absolutely no sense why Suite/Diamond/Pinnacle should get luggage first. Just sounds self important. But, 12 is mighty late, and I could understand that frustration.

We loved Park Cafe and Vitality for breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Sorry to hear...we have been on the Allure twice and loved it. If we had to critique, it would be that Park 150 was slipping in our eyes. Which is one of the specialty restaurants. We would go on it again in a heartbeat. We are going on the Navigator in March and are a little nervous we won't like it as well after being on the Allure.
