Review summary

We feel forcing people of a certain nationality to cajole adults to wash their hands with the "W-W" phrase may be taken as racist and that phrase by those crew members is hurtful for them to constantly repeat like performing seals. It deeply saddens us. It is NOT a RCI problem; unfortunately, EVERY cruiseline does it : ( Well, the 6 or 7 we've been on did! Those poor souls must feel dehumanized but cannot speak up for fear of losing their jobs...How about "please do not forget to wash your hands." -OR- "Please practice good hygiene." and "Wash your hands before eating." It's the one thing we HATE about cruising.

Embarkation

Alright, nice staff

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in general was perfectly edible; as in ALL cruises, the cakes look beautiful but are bland to tasteless...the creme brulee was heartbreaking; not a hard crack in sight :( As a Brooklynite, Johhny Rockets needs malt lessons! You do NOT put malt at the end of a malted as sprinkles!!! I nearly died!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Always enjoy the trivia!

Entertainment

If going to see a magician would make me tall thin blonde smart AND rich I still wouldn't go...Ditto for jugglers and mimes UGH! RCI needs adult comedians on board!!!

Children's Programs

barren

Service and Staff

Marie in the MDR @ table 167 was phenomonal...The men in the MDR wear too much cologne/after shave peeeeeeewwww!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Yes, as far as we saw...

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
I gave an OK because the drawer space was greatly welcomed : ) if not I would have rated the cabin "Poor" because we could not fit along the side of the bed to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Definitely do NOT NEED a loveseat in that small room where a regular one-seat chair will solve that problem at minimal cost to you!

Ship tip

Manage your expectations...we were spoiled by the Oasis in March 2022

Ports of call

Halifax, Nova Scotia

We only had time for a little local shopping

Disembarkation

It was ok; we did get off the ship so I don't see many loose ends there...

Sorry this cruise didn’t meet your expectations!

I view many of the Windjammer hosts and hostesses as exceptional employees. Their use of wishy - washy and assorted props to welcome me to the ever busy buffet dining area makes me smile and feel welcome. Wouldn’t it be great if more businesses greeted customers personally while making eye contact? Remember when one particular box store use to welcome our children with stickers. Alas, the PC police did away with stickers and now threaten our clean hands.

“W-W” The Phrase that Cannot be Spoken

ukgal    2 years ago

What are you talking about. The washy washy song is playful. Anyone one who thinks differently needs to give their head a wobble.

Washy-Washy is fun. Everyone remembers it and happens all the time. I’ve yet to hear or see anyone angry at this. Thanks for reviewing.

If I had issues with every part of my cruises I would find another way to vacation. I love cruising and pretty much all that intells. Thank you for your review though.

That thought has never entered my mind. They are being playful. Just adding some fun to their jobs. Same with the ones that dress up in costumes. They are entertaining.

Strange, I do not feel that I was being racially profiled when I was asked to encourage ‘washy washy’ at a dinner function my group hosted.

Standard cleanliness is a must. After several recent cruises, there was a gentle guidance to wash. Thanks to all who keep us sailing and your review.

I’m pretty sure not all of the “washy washy” guys (if that’s what you mean) on cruise ships are the same nationality so not sure what “certain nationality” you refer to? It’s supposed to be them having a bit of fun with the passengers while encouraging them to clean their hands, lighten up! At one of the final shows I went to they had a shout out to all the areas of staff and crew and washy washy got the biggest cheer from the crowd. If it’s racist I’m clearly missing something and I’d be the first to apologise.

The phrase is not racist. And I doubt they were told what to say. I don’t know how you draw this conclusion. The ships are understaffed and they do the best they can as they are getting back to normal. So chill out. If not to your liking try something else. Sad that your comments are so negative.

What is this W-W phrase? I don't remember anyone telling me to wash my hands on any cruise.

UNDERSTAND THE HAND WASHING PHRASE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE!!….REALLY!

Thanks for sharing. It seems for someone who has been on "6 or 7" cruises, you would know to book a suite so you'd have more room to navigate in your cabin. We know standard cabins are usually small. Also, food on cruises (like restaurants) can be hit or miss, but I've never found that cakes are ALWAYS dry and/or bland on EVERY cruise I've been on. Good luck in the future finding perfection.
