South America 2012/2013 - Marni by mwieshofer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: South America

Didn't tell us that there were NO ATMs in Stanley and no restaurants take credit cards. We were stranded. Gym situation was almost intolerable - need WAY MORE gym/cardio equipment, missed movies in Princess Theatre (too cold ouside) and need some type of vod/hotel system for watching movies.

A restful trip by marloblum

We liked the size of the ship, it was beautiful, liked the outdoor pools. Too many areas devoted to smoking, especially those near food and under our veranda.

South America 2012/2013 - Erich by wieshofer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: South America

Disbarling was a nighare, availability of computers and printers shut off on last days without notice and hostile gym situation - there isn't enough cardio equipment and the equipment is terrible.

Celebrity -- always a joy. by JN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Infinity / Destination: South America

The refitting of this ship was quite nice, overall -- cabin was beautiful and the common areas quite nice. The only negative I thought was the creation of Blu, which made the upstairs main dining area a bit awkward. Our waiter commented on this a couple of times and I agree with him. The old layout of these ship really was better, though the addition of more cabins did not seem to me to create any sense of overcrowding.

Antarctica Amazing!! by Falcon10156

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Veendam / Destination: South America

We had a Lanai room on this ship.  For this itinerary it was fabulous.

We boarded the ship in Valpariso.  Cruise was full of scenery.  Chilean fjords were beautiful.   It did get colder as we went down the coast.  When I first saw Antarctica it was breathtaking, penguins were amazing - just swimming beside the ship.We saw whales and sea lions as well.

Amazingly we were able to get into Falkland Islands - best weather they had had in awhile.  We saw rockhopper penguins and they came so close to us (they were wild so we had to move slowly and not cross a rope that was down)

We were able to see Elephant seals and sealions on the Valdez peninsula in Argentina.  We also had a great day in Uruguay.

We did the post-cruise with Holland America and saw Iguazu falls and Buenos Aires - I highly recommend this option.

If you like majestic scenery, this is the cruise to take. But it was really cold and windy down there.

Azamara Journey - best cruise line !! by MarkK2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: South America

This is one of, if not the very best products on the open seas. You feel like it is your own private yacht. The crew makes you feel like a VIP, each and every day! Food is fabulous and the wine is outstanding. I've been to the Baltic and then to South America. Wherever you are, you will experience the finest service there is to offer.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rotterdam Retired / Destination: South America

ROTTERDAM IS AN EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE SHIP. CABINS ARE LARGE. THE LIBRARY IS ONE OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE AT SEA AND THE FOOD IS GOOD OVERALL. HOLLAND AMERICA TRIES TO PLEASE. THE PROFESSIONAL ENTERTAINMENT AND THE NIGHTLY MOVIES PROVIDE NICE DIVERSIONS.

Have been on two 20+ day cruises on this ship and was on it when it was the Seabourn Sun - one of the best ships out there. Great itineraries.

Mixed Review by BarryX

Well maintained and clean ship. Food was mediocre and dining service was mixed -- good and poor. Public areas were tastefully decorated. Staterooms were dated.

wonderful experience by RobinR1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: South America

Top of the line experience worth every dime. We had an inside cabin next to the stairs and close to the wash/dryer. It was so quiet we never heard a person passing by. Accommodations were wonderful in our cabin.

A great cruise by Antoine72791817

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Veendam / Destination: South America

The cruise exceeded all of our expectations. We particularly liked having a day or two at sea between ports so you could rest up. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The cleaniness of the ship, the service and food nothing was lacking. We did take a tour in Puerto Monte which was to the rain forest and we were very disappointed. On the brochure it showed (2 people) indicating a moderate amount of walking and it stated 1,000 feet to walk to an area. We questioned the distance of walking and we were told it was 100 feet and the 1,000 feet must be a misprint. This was totally incorrect as it was in fact a complete walking tour over uneven surfaces and several inclines and would have been impossible for me to nagivate. In addition to this the rain forest was lacking and very disapointing. My husband took the walking tour and I stayed on the bus as my mobility is limited.

one of the worst cruises by TobyZ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Rotterdam Retired / Destination: South America

the modern decor is not the Rotterdam, get some decent cooks and the procuction shows were not up to your standards and the other entertainers were poor showing. this is the third time i have been on the Rotterdam and the first time i have been disappointed in the cruise. I am going on the Nieuw Amsterdam in May from Venice and hope the food and entertainment is better or i will not book again on your ships. The food was great in the Pinnacle and the Lido was passing, but your dining room needs help. The last dinner is sick and i ate nothing. no choices and your Master Cheft dinner needs a lot of help

Amazon Adventure by Kennicott

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Navigator / Destination: South America

Sail Date: November 2012 Destination: Amazon River and Caribbean   Embarkation: Miami

We prefer relatively the smaller expedition capable type ships. Have voyaged now for over 400 nights. Used HAL and Princess until we discovered Regent. No problem with HAL and Princess but Regent is superior in the majority of categories. This trip was Miami to Miami,13 ports visited, 6 on the Amazon River. Very educational and enjoyable. This was our second cruise on the Navigator and third on Regent. Very good ship for exploration style voyages. Regent has made a few modifications to the ship since they acquired it. All for the better. Some complain of the vibration but it actually isn't bad at all, only in the stern during departures. Regent is the only line we have been on where the smell of sewage on its ships isn't detectable at times in various locations. The public space per passenger is about the highest in the industry and the ratio of crew to passengers is also on the top of the list. We particularly like the cabins. They are very spacious, at least in the deluxe suite and penthouse suite accommodations. A smaller balcony suite has 356 sq. feet of space, compared to slightly over 200 on many other ships. We have had a separate bath and walk in shower in the spacious bathrooms every time. Same goes for the walk in closets which are about as large as standard cabin bathrooms. Food was excellent and we never have been delayed for meals at any time, we usually eat dinner at table for two in the man dining room. Sure nice to not be hog tied to a traditional dining environment where one is relegated to dine with "luck of the draw" random dinner companions, night after night. The specialty restaurant, "Prime 7", is an excellent intimate quality culinary experience. Only problem is there are not enough tables for two. We recommend they restrict seating at tables for 4 & 6 to parties already formed up prior to dinner. No seating with random companions should be made. Part of the reason for this is there is no extra charge for the premium dining rooms on Regent. Therefore some show up because they believe they must take advantage of a perk, regardless whether they are in a foul mood and improperly dressed. We visited St. Barts, St Lucia, Devils Island, Trinidad, Santarem, Manaus, Parintins, Barbados and Antiqua--Shore excursions were all excellent but we did prefer some ports much more than others. Parintins was a little Amazon River village which we had to walk to from the beach, population 100, which symbolized best the theme of the voyage and gave us the a real appreciation of life on the Amazon. No nickel and dimeing with Regent. Your initial payment covers almost everything including liquor (fine selection of red wines on board) as well as the best shore excursions we have experienced.

Colon to Fort Lauderdale - New Adventure by Cmiller2891101

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Enchantment of the Seas / Destination: South America

This was a repositioning cruise, which was also the last sailing before drydock. The ship was in good visual condition, but during this sailing, some of the drydock work was beginning. I wasn't effected much, but you could see scraping of paint on outside public areas, piping repairs and changes, beginning to happen. This is a great small ship with a wonderful staff! I can't imagine the ship after drydock, I hear the upcoming improvements will be fabulous! Overall, the trip and the ports were wonderful. Getting on the ship in Colon was easy and once in Fort Lauderdale, it was just as easy.
