Truly Tulips and Wonderful Windmills by T4Me

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Einar

Great cruise in all ways. Some days we had to leave rather early for excursions, earlier than even this early riser likes.

Our First River Cruise by candcvan3

We enjoyed this cruise but would not do another one. Just not enough to see and do, especially in the evening.

Disappointing. by cheryltodd20647

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Egdir

Very disappointing. For $20,000, we definitely did NOT get our moneys worth. They put no thought into getting the best flights. Charged us for Premium Economy and 4 of the six legs of the trip were Economy. We understand about having to change ships in middle of trip, but it was a terrible inconvenience. Food was adequate. Bar would charge my husband $7 for Virgin Bloody Mary’s. Had to have several items removed from our bill that weren’t ours. Rooms were very well taken care of. Cruise Director, Dan, was the best part of the cruise. He worked as hard as anyone I’ve ever seen. He is well educated and knew a lot about where we were going. Very organized for having to do so many things by himself. The tours weren’t good overall. We were late for most of them. As much as an hour which left us going at a dead run and missing a lot. There was no way to book anything other than Viking tours because you never knew exactly where the ship would be. Overall…it was a LOT of money for a mediocre cruise. Unfortunately, we don’t plan on going with Viking again. We will stick with Oceania for our ocean cruises and look elsewhere for river cruises.

Delightful Viking Grand European river cruise by ViejoLoco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Gymir

An expensive but top-notch, quality cruise. Fortunately, we had no river problems (not too high, not too low, etc). Staff and service are superb. Our cruise director, Sue, was fabulous.

Not just for wine lovers by MikeTelles

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Forseti

We recommend this trip even if you are not a wine enthusiast. I am not, however I enjoyed every wine I tasted. Learning about French wines is fascinating and the history of Bordeaux and the ports of call were quite enjoyable to experience. The excursions and guides are top notch. Breathtaking scenery everywhere we went!

Pleasant trip specially for the tulips garden by ntee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: AmaMora

Great experience and excellent service (good wines, great food with right proportions for the senior demographics albeit sometimes too severe, ie, diced chicken cubes or diced fruits in yogurt in minuscule morsels: suggested larger pieces and same amount in Grams/oz

A good first (and last?) exploration of river cruising by tommytune42

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Alsvin

So this was our first Viking river cruise, and we loved it. It's probably also our last Viking river cruise, at least for awhile. How can it be both? First of all, we were treated like royalty. The service was great. The food was amazing. Our cabin was very nice. And the scenery was superb. So what was not to like? Well, for one, we were, at 57, some of the youngest on the ship. This is not, in and of itself, and problem, except that we are also quite a bit more active than most of our fellow cruisers. We are looking for activities and experiences, not just walking around yet another German village on a casual stroll, seeing their architecture, etc. We want to DO things--let's walk up to that castle; let's ride a bike to the next town; let's climb the bell tower of the church; let's see twice as much in the same amount of time. We can sit around and drink coffee or go shopping at home--that's not our thing. So much of the "excursion" experience seemed to be geared toward the very gentle and pedestrian rather than the active and immersive.

Mixed Feelings by lindageer0

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Viking Forseti

I think the title of the cruise is misleading. When I think of a chateaux, I think of something like you would see in the Loire Valley. I was also disappointed that two of the shore tours included long bus rides as I get motion sick.

A chilly cruise down the Rhine by gea4957

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Tialfi

The weather was poor but not their fault. Shipped parked way too far from the activities and they included walks of almost a mile just to get to the busses. Would like more selections on the dinner menu too limited for our tastes

Excellent river cruise by knightslug

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Ingvi

The cruise was simply amazing. The picturesque views of the Danube river and its surroundings were breathtaking, and the ports of call in Linz, Krems, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest offered a unique and fascinating glimpse into the cultures and histories of each city. The ship's amenities and staff were top-notch, providing a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Overall, this Danube river cruise was an unforgettable journey that I highly recommend to anyone seeking an adventure with beautiful scenery, rich culture, and luxurious accommodations.

Viking is an excellent cruise line. However, the shore excursions for this trip left a great deal to be desired.

Fabulous Christmas Cruise! by Cruiser9793145

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: AmaVerde / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

This cruise surpassed all my expectations! I can't say enough about how warm and friendly the AmaVerde staff were or how beautiful the boat was. The food was amazing too. While this kind of trip may be a "once-in-a-lifetime" type thing for many (including me), the investment is well worth it!

Beautiful Time of the Year to Visit by mevink

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Avalon Visionary / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

There is no time like December to visit Germany for rich traditions. The markets are all unique and the people are friendly. This cruise was a combo of five days on ship, two in Prague. The ship days brought us stops at nice places and the Main and Main/Danube Canal are smooth sailing. The captain was very present and friendly. All staff did what they could to give us a great experience. It's a chilly time of year, so remember warm head and hand coverings.
