Lovely ship, staff, and excursions by BPM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: S.S. Antoinette / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

My husband and I loved our cruise along the Rhine.  We thought that the staff was attentive and the ship very well-maintained.  The cruise director was professional and knowledgeable.  The excursions were very well run and interesting.  We loved the vinegar tasting - (who would have thought?) and enjoyed our cruise companions.  We thought that the evening entertainment was insufficient - would have liked to see/hear more and the food was good but not great!  However, the trip was an awesome experience!

Danube by jamartin70

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: S.S. Maria Theresa / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Favorites were the cider farm in Linz, chamber orchestra concert in Vienna, Nikolaihoff winery tour. It was nice to have early access to museum in Vienna.

Opera House was not interesting at all.

Common River Cruise by redpeny

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Rolf / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Cabins were small because indoor space was taken up with outdoor deck which we barely used. French balconies are all you need on a river cruise. Food was good, service slow in the dining room. We had an over zealous waiter which was annoying.

It is impossible beforehand, to get the exact hours you are in a port on a river cruise. On a ocean cruise you can tell before you go the exact hours you are in a port. As with all river cruises the itinerary is tight, not enough free time, and too much bus time.

Traveling with friends by Cruiser97655904

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Egil / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

The amazing staff of Viking Egil from the captain to our room attendant made this trip outstanding. The Program Director Oliver is fun, organized and very helpful. The waitstaff are so attentive, helpful and friendly. Milan and Angie deserve a huge thank you.

The beauty of the Danube is inspiring.

Our first Viking River Cruise by gabbott46

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Vidar / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

The folks at Viking really know how to spoil their customers.  Everything about the cruise was wonderful.  Even though it was supposedly the rainy season, it never rained once.  The food was excellent.  All of the employees on the ship could not have done more to make it a terrific adventure.

We will cruise with Viking again!

Ama Sonata June on the Rhine by mikemnh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: AmaSonata / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Cabin was outstanding.  Food was excellent.  Breakfast and lunch buffet layout caused frequent semi collisions with wait staff.  Crew was excellent, but overall ship board operations seemed a bit disorganized.  Lounge entertainment could use improvement to quality of  excellent La Scala.  Tours on Rhine are not as good as Danube.  Overall, an enjoyable experience, though fairly overpriced.

Beautiful Danube by Cruiser4865431

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Viking Jarl / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

The food was delicious.  The cabins were immaculate.  The scenery was beautiful.  The only thing I would have changed were some of the city tours.   I understand the city tours were to give us a general overview or introduction to a city.  Too often, I felt the buses drove past sites that would have been great to explore in person.  Often, we didn't have enough time to come back on our own to explore the sites.

Interesting Danube cruise, for first time cruiser by tototoo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

not enough time in each port. I enjoyed the tour leaders - the one in Nuremberg was my favorite, gave us a real sense of German people. GREAT food and Service.

Wonderful ship, service, food - places visited on way not as exciting as Danube cruis. by Brosan1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: AmaCello / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Having been spoiled by Danube cruise locales, the places visited on the cruise portion were disappointing - no evening excursions, most French towns visited similar - cobblestone streets and shops, cathedrals, etc.

The illuminations show in the cavern in Arles was spectacular - don't miss it.

Barcelona and Paris, as always were a delight.

AMA did an excellent job coordinating every aspect of the tour.

Great first cruise by Cruiser33963486

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Viking Delling / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

The staff of the Delling were friendly, helpful and professional. The longship was clean and modern and the food was fabulous. An issue with faulty air conditioning was handled well and it was obvious that passenger comfort was important to Viking. I would recommend the Delling to all of my friends. A great experience! I travelled with my mother but that choice doesn't show up below. Our room type also doesn't show up but I chose "ocean view," the closest choice to the French Balcony on a river cruise.

Great first river cruise experience by marwalt7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Hermod / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Wonderful, knowledgeable and passionate guides on included excursions.  Ship staff warm and friendly providing excellent customer service.  Cabin was very comfortable. Would recommend improvement on menu variety, wifi, and frequency of double or triple docking which left balcony unusable.

Viking Baldur 14 Night Grand European Tour Eastbound by dunnfam5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Viking Baldur / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Our favorite part was traveling with friends, visiting old and new haunts.  The ship's crew was fantastic.  We could not have asked for more.

My only wishes for future cruises would be to get a heads up before airline reservations are confirmed.  We would have stayed a few days longer had it not required the expense of changing tickets.  Also, it would be nice to have some included (or optional) tours that were not always focused on the urban setting.  A trip to a forest or a day biking along the rivers would have been welcomed.

Nice cruise...don't use United Cruise Service! by vinceobfg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Viking Kara / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Nice Viking River cruise with some great side trips! United Luxury Cruise services were Totally Useless....wouldn't return phone calls or answer emails. Would Never use them again! Better to go directly through Viking. They were very responsive.

Hard to imagine nicer accommodations or better service! by Cruiser95278416

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Egil / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

At the top of the list of complements Wong be the Eigl crew and staff.  From the always cheerful Captain, to the seriously committed Tour Director and the Wait and Housekeeping staff,  everyone bent over backwards to make our "visit" both comfortable and thoroughly informative.

Accommodations on the Eigl were excellent.  For example, and oddly, the bathroom in our cabin, though a bit smaller than the one at the Corinthia Hotel in Prague, actually was considerably easier to navigate, with more shelving for toiletries, and a more logically designed shower.

The "wall of glass" leading out to the private porch just added to the pleasure.

You've got to ride this boat!!

We thought the cruise was well done and have no complains.  We particularly liked the cruise director, Barbara.  We also thought all the local guides were good.  We did not particulate much in on board entertainment..

Many locks. by Cruiser3870704

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: AmaPrima / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

The whole cruise was wonderful.  If there was one thing to change it would be the bedding.  The duvet on the bed is too hot.  They happily changed it to blankets, but have no top sheets so use a duvet cover for the top sheet.  I noticed this in hotels also..

The weather was perfect.  it never rained once and the days were almost always sunny and warm.  The staff was always smiling and happy to see us. The tours were always interesting.  Learned a lot about history.

I was amazed at the number of locks and how deep they were.  It was a fascinating trip and i am glad i went.

Rhine curise by DCH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Avalon Felicity / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

I loved this trip!  It was clearly NOT as beautiful of a river as the Danube but we visited so many beautiful little towns.  There was only the small portion of the Rhine that was beautiful and the remainder was industrial--which was a disappointment after being able to hang out on top during the sailing days to enjoy the scenery. The tours were great and very informative with excellent guides.  Guides were knowledgeable (sometimes maybe a little too much) and enthusiastic about their town and spoke English proficiently.  Isaella was superb and on top of everything.  The reception staff was very helpful (Dia) and friendly as was the food service personnel (Gary).

the stateroom was smaller than our previous Avalon room but was satisfactory.  the bed was comfortable and I love the amenities.  The food was okay--sometimes great and sometimes not so great.

Budapest to Nuremberg - Viking Egil by HoneyB63

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Egil / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Our favorite part of the cruise was the congeniality of the guests as well as the wait staff.

Since this was our first river cruise in Europe, we were surprised at the amount of time spent in each port.  Unlike conventional cruising and Chinese river cruising, the ship was not in port for any length of time. I would have preferred more time in the ports.

Also we were very unhappy that we paid $99 per person to "see" the Lipizzaner  Stallions.  We saw the stallions in their stables and the performance hall but alas no performance.  The jockeys did not even work on Monday, the day we attended this optional excursion.  Information very misleading.

Program Director, Anthony was great as well as our waiter, Florian.

Tops in Everything, As Always by flsilver

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Kadlin / Destination: River Cruises - Europe

Third VK river cruise.  Kadlin ship excellent, as have been our other VK ships. Storeroom middle deck with veranda. Comfortable. Bed, bathroom, walk in shower, excellent. Cruise Director Ken Dermer: superior. As are Chef Manuel, dining table attendant Norman, and housekeeper Beats. Ken is knowledgeable, and engaging in his presentations. Highlights: Claude Monet's gardens and house. VK guides are personable and highly informative. Highly recommend to take Versailles, Louvre, Normandy D-Day Beaches, and Paris day excursions. If you extend in Paris, highly recommend D'Orsey museum, Garnier Opera House, & Pompidou Center. Pompidou Center = hard to navigate. Go right to Gallery 5 modern art collection.  My travel agent Peter von Fridrich handled every precruise request very well.
