thanks all for the answers. we will be driving down from san francisco. it turns out that even though the shuttle is free, parking at the hotels will cost at least $25/day. it would be cheaper to park at the port (i believe $17/day). we'll stay the night before departure at the nearby courtyard marriott. super excited!

Are you driving into LA or flying? The Choice Hotel is really nice and has an inexpensive package that allows you to leave your car there during the cruise. We took an Uber (not too pricy) but I saw others taking a shuttle.

Check with Carnival first. They offer free transportation on the day of the cruise and the day home. Plus, they may have deals with nearby hotels. at least check what hotels they pickup and deliver from.

We’ve stayed at both the Marriott and best western. They both offered cruise parking for free for up to 10 days. The best western had a shuttle and we took a Lyft from the Marriott. Both hotels are fine.
