we are thinking about renting a van to take the whole family down to Miami for our cruise next year. Are there any rental car agencies close to Port?

I would never recommend Sixt normally but they are always offering one way rentals and they have an office in the Intercontinental Hotel downtown... maybe look it up. I wonder if they have clearance for a passanger van since i picture them in a garage...i don't know

Port Miami is adjacent (maybe 3 miles) from MIA. All airports have rental agencies just off site. IMPORTANT though, only the very large agencies allow one-way rentals. Some charge extra for one way rentals. Do your research! Use google maps and locate the port then sub-search for “rental car agencies “.

Don’t know where you are traveling from but would not your local area be the location to get a van?

we are renting a van for everyone. and I checked in on everything. it's going to cost the same thing if I drop it off and re rent it. so we are just gonna pay for parking. I'm driving from NC to Orlando

We used a Hertz downtown near the port, but be advised the return area is on the 5th floor garage of a building, not very spacious to navigate a larger vehicle. Also, downtown Miami traffic is painfully slow, so plan accordingly.

We found the best option was to return the car to the airport and shuttle/ Uber etc from the airport to the port. Also, you can drop all passengers and luggage off at the port and only the driver has to transport to the port

Hertz, budget, Alamo , enterprise definitely has location in downtown Miami with shuttles to port. Drop everyone off then drop off van

Port Miami is actually about 8 miles from Miami International, not 3 miles. It’s a 20 minute drive. Shop around for agencies that have one way rentals available from wherever you come from, to Miami.

&taacman. They are looking for somewhere to drop it off

Answered by bonvoyage68 on August 20, 2024

We plan to use Avis. It depends mainly on what companies are avaliable at the location you are renting from

I usually do car rental through Costco, great prices and you’ll be able to compare a few companies in the locations you’d like. Sometimes hotels will have a car rental but one way can vary greatly in price by location depending on what benefits them. For example price can be less to pick up and drop off from airports vs small hotel or port locations, especially for one way. Our next trip to California we are doing this and just Uber to nearby airport car rental to pick up after a couple days at parks, then drop off at the different airport that we fly out of.
