Miami, Florida Port Q&A

4.2
Hey, I will be boarding to the Bahamas with my 2 sons (under18) and wanted to know if I need passports? I asked the agent and she said they can longer advise if it’s needed or not… if I can save $300 on not getting them then I don’t want to get them.. but if it’s needed then I’ll bite the bullet

Hello! My travel agent told me a passport is not needed if the trip starts at a US port and finishes at the same port (Loop). However, I would get the passport to be safe. If you get sick, hurt, or stranded in another country you may need. Plus you will have it for your next adventure!

passport is must to have or a Real ID license for cruise, but for issue more deep like you didn't catch the ship on time , you will need a passport book for when need to travel to other port of call or homeport, because cruising go to international ports

My travel agent said it was not needed for closed loop cruises that start at a US port and finishes at the original port. However I woukd get the passports for a variety of reasons.

back 20 years ago I sailed with under 18 with birth certificates only. But in today's world bite the bullet and get the passport. You all will need it to get back into the US!

We have been cruising since our kids were 3 and 1 and they are now 15 and 17. They have passports. Do they need them. No. But I will never take the chance of missing the ship and not being able to get home. Plus it is much easier to get through customs.

I went to Nassau Bahamas, Dominican Republic without a passport because my fiance had to wait to get his. Just birth certificate and ID. BUT we do have them now and I will say if you can and there is enough time...just get them. It is way easier for one thing and if something happens and u don't have one...you are going to pay a lot of money to get temporary ones from the place you are stuck.

Because you are traveling by cruise ship you do not need a passport for them. You will need their birth certificates though!

Passports are only good for 5 years if you are under 18. Birth certificate and a second ID is all you need also your passport has a to be good 6 months before your trip. For example my example if your passportexpires in
