You should be assigned (or be able to pick) an arrival time by your cruise line when you check in.

Please check with your cruise line to make sure. They may, or may not, have assigned times for you to arrive at the pier. Princess, as an example, used to have assigned times to arrive, but did away with that policy earlier this year, and now allow passengers to arrive whenever they wan up until their cutoff time. However, most cruise lines would require you to arrive ‘not later than’ two hours before departure. And if you did arrive just 2 hours before departure, that would really be cutting it close! I would definitely arrive earlier than that.

If you don't have a specific assigned time, a good rule of thumb is to get to the cruise port no later than 2 hours before the ship departs. Also, check your email regularly in the few days before your departure day; sometimes the cruise lines have to change the sail away time.
