It wasn't great but wasn't that good. I feel like this port is more for walking around and shopping. Just an FYI since this port is part of California you will still get taxed on your drinks while ported. There isn't many excursions. Not some where I want. To go back to unless they make more things to do. It is a beautiful island just not much to do.

Took the Eco-Jeep Adventure Excursion and it was well worth the $. Very knowledgeable, interesting and outgoing guide showed us the sites, educated us on the ecology and history and we had an amazing time. This guide made this stop the most memorable out of the entire cruise. Would do it again.

If you have spent any time in any small beach town along the Pacific coast, Avalon will be nothing special to you. That said, if you book an excursion, you will probably enjoy it. Food, drinks and shops are expensive, as everything has to be shipped from the mainland. If you are doing a 3 or 4 day cruise, most people just get off the ship so they can use their phones without paying the exorbitant ship rates. A beach day at Descanso Beach Club can be nice, albeit expensive. Beware of late May/early June cloudy weather.

Very nice little island town. Other than shopping there isn't much to do without spending a few hundred bucks. We decided to rent a golf cart ($45 an hour) and drove around to get some good views. You have to give yourself at least 1.5 hours

Catalina was very cute. Very small but lots to do in the time we are there. I thought the price of the excursions were way overpriced. The golf carts would be fun to drive around but it was just too expensive.

It was a little cold for snorkeling but was so much fun. You can rent everything you need by the casino for $25. The town is so cute and had great shops. We also took a pottery class and that was very interesting as she told history about the island and we got to make our own tile.
