Tauranga was beautiful. Did a small personal tour of the island which was great.

Need private tour to visit Hobbiton, cruise no help, not to be missed.

Went independently to Hobbit land. Wonderful day.

Oh my goodness!! Loved Hobbiton!! Got to see where the Hobbit movies were made. We got to actually go into a Hobbit Hole and drink ale at the Inn. I will never forget this adventure!!

The port of Tauranga is actually in Mount Maunganui - about 7 miles from the city of Tauranga. But it’s right in a gorgeous beach with lots of water-based activities within a 10 minute walk from the ship. The town is nice too with a fair number of shops. I had planned on taking the Hop on bus but I got confused by the directions (I think it was just me) so ended up walking around My Maunganui.

Geothermal area and Maori Village Great!

Unless you were content to go to a beach, not a whole lot going on at this stop.

We arranged for a local bus tour of the area using a private vendor similar to what was offered by the cruise line. It is an interesting area that could easily have held our interests for more than one day.
