While the ship was again at a commercial wharf, a complimentary shuttle was also provided. Our shore excursion this time was the "Marlborough Train Tour". After a short bus ride to the Picton train station, we boarded Passchendaele, a WW1 memorial steam locomotive for a ride to Blenheim - this took about 30 minutes. Getting off at the Blenheim station, we had a chance to check out the locomotive and have a chat to the engineers. There was a great souvenir shop nearby where we picked up a couple of things, and then walked about 20 minutes to have lunch at Dodson Street Beer Garden (http://www.dodsonstreet.co.nz/). Just as much as the Marlborough region is known for its wines, there are also some great local breweries - and we got to try a number of the local brews at Dodson Street. Definitely worth going to if you like your beers! The afternoon saw us ride the train from Blenheim back to Picton, and then the bus back to the wharf to board Ovation. The queues for the bus in Picton were pretty long, so would suggest not hanging around in Picton for too long.

Great port. Went to Visitor Center and booked a wine tour. Visited 3 wonderful vineyards and tasted fantastic wines! Really enjoyed the tour. We sailed from here early and wish we could have stayed longer! Husband went to the Omaka Museum and wished for more time there as well.

Beautiful, stunning Picton. Book a small group tour including a winery, seafood and green-lip mussel experience and scenic drive. BOOK AHEAD..it was a challenge fighting to book a tour at their I-Tourist site with 2000 other passengers from the Ovation.

Beautiful little town on the Southern tip of the North Island. Everyone in the town was very friendly and nice to get out and walk around. Didn't bother with an excursions here just enjoyed the small town and the amazing Kiwis who are so friendly! Try some of the local beers and wines and enjoy the sunshine.
