Long shuttle trip from ship to terminal. Taxied thru on way to Santiago - Valparaiso looked rather run down. Santiago worth extra day/s stay

Valparaiso is not an attractive port. The pretty buildings have been obscured by large modern buildings that do not fit with the original character. Like many places in Chile graffiti is a problem and makes the city look dirty. The Funk Museum has a really nice small wing dedicated to Rapa Nui (Easter Island). The upstairs of the museum is about flora and fauna and is outdated and in poor shape. Vina del Mar which is billed as the nicer area of Valparaiso is not much nicer. Santiago is over an hour away from this port.

Valparaiso is a trashy city with graffiti all over the place. We Did 2 tours. The first was the included tour, Panoramic Valparisio & Vino Del Mar. This was just plain awful, a waste of time. The guide did not even stop at the last place. The 2nd Tour was "On the Trail of Pablo Neruda" who was a poet I have never heard of. His home on the coast was very interesting, and then we visited his home in the city. Still, not up to the quality of the tours we have experienced on our 3 prior Viking River Cruises.
