HOOD RIVER, OREGON overview

At the base of Mount Hood lies the sleepy town of Hood River. The old trading post is most famous as the terminus of the Mount Hood Railroad, where timber and produce would be transferred to ships and sent downriver. Now the historic railroad is a highlight of the area, winding its way high into the mountains for unprecedented views of the Gorge and the tallest peak in Oregon.

Wow! We docked at a beautiful spot on the river and had several excursion opportunities. However, our favorite was the WAAM (Western Air and Auto Museum)! It was spectacular and very memorable!! Here again, we lived only 100 miles from this awesome museum of airplaines, automobiles, motorcycles, etc. and everything in the museum is still operable. And once again, we had never been there before. Shame on us! Thank you American Cruise Line for introducing us to so many wonderful places - and in our own state. That's what happens when you only stay on the freeways. We loved watching the wind and kite surfing! BEAUTIFUL!
