We had an excursion scheduled that was cancelled due to late arrival. This was a total joke as the captain announced a day before that they had to do some routine maintenance on one of the four engines. This slowed the ship by a couple of hours. Who does routine engine maintenance while sailing; this is an effort that is addressed while in port. We were reimbursed but our day was basically wasted. We wound up going to Bonita beach. We had previously done some research on this beach and knew that it had heavy waves, but it was not very far from the ship. It was okay!

Booked a local tour: Cahuita National Park, Tortuguero River, and Banana Plantation. Excellent day!! Tried the best banana I've ever tasted at the plantation!! Our guide showed us the banana trees out in the fields. Hiked along a trail through Cahuita National Park, just inland from a beach. We saw howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, sloths, iguanas, raccoons, etc. In the canal, we saw tons of birds including different colored herons, and saw a caiman in the water. ** Very cool jungle surroundings, and wildlife noises everywhere. **

We did a hike through the rainforest and saw monkeys and sloths. Our guide was awesome! He took us to some cool spots, and he was very knowledgeable.

We had a good experience to the rainforest. Depressed economy is obvious but our guides did a good job and we had a fun time. The tour provided an adequate light lunch and drinks.

We took an independent excursion that was a combination of banana plantation tour, national park tour, and Tortuguera waterways tour. Fantastic day. We saw monkeys, sloths, a poisonous viper, butterflies, birds, herons, and even those lizards that walk on water.
