We literally got directly off the ship and right onto a bus. The bus ride out drove through some pretty bleak urban slums. Sad

We did the self guided tour of the canal. Bus driver was great. She gave us a lot of information about the country and once we are at the canal there were educational signs and the staff was very helpful and helpful.

Save money and get a taxi right out side of the port and see the Panama Canal. It was about $20 each and another $10 each to get in to the canal visitors center. You will see so much on the drive there and back.

Colon is not a very nice port but we booked our own tour through Viator (Viking tour we wanted was full) and went to Agua Clara (the new locks) and then to Panama City sites. We had a wonderful guide and it was a small group tour.

Visited the Canal. We took a tour offered by a taxi driver. It was a great value compared to the Carnival excursions being offered. We got the idea from a youtube vedio.

We took a ship's tour (unusual for us) that visited multiple places including a shore side view of the Aqua Clara locks. There is a very new, clean and nicely designed Visitor Center. This Ship's tour was long and involved over 2h of riding a bus to and from. It also took us to old town Colon which was very nice. The company that organizes this tour was outstanding. Everything went smoothly and our tour guide the whole trip very good. Would recommend this tour.
