We were treated to a midnight embarkation, so it gave us more time to enjoy this stop. We took advantage of having a wonderful teppanyaki dinner with very tasty Kobe beef.

We took the excursion to the Bamboo Forest in Arashiyama - it was spectacular. The bus ride was a little long but well worth it. We went during "Golden Week", a Holiday week in Japan, so there were many Japanese visitors mixed in with the tourists. Although we were there only a few hours, we had time to wander on our own throughout the park and forest, and had time to visit some of the shops and eating places there. Again, it was very crowded due to the holiday crowds.

Cruise line bills it as Osaka/Kyoto rather than Kobe/Kyoto. Plenty to do in both cities, great transport around and plenty of ship excursions.

Ummm, i think it should say here Osaka... Anyways, we almost cried when leaving Osaka. Wanted to stay there a lot more. 2 hours spent at the Aquarium, some more at Arashiyama Bamboos. It was too crowded though. But still relaxing. It took some time to get there from the port at Osaka but totally worth it. And the Takoyaki at Osaka, ummm!!!

2.5 hour bus ride each way from port. Bullet train is 20 minutes. Would have been a great experience as one way or the other or both ways on the tour. Golden temple is a building in the middle of a lake painted yellow with a golden rooster on top. The steps are 3 flights of uneven with NO hand rails. Very unsafe. Did see the palace building. Moat surrounding.
