There is a lot to do within walking distance of the port. Really nice mall right across the street. Cantina on the same side of the street with a shopping area. You can catch a private or public transport to the Malecon which is a really short trip. Tons of things to do in PV. Also a relatively new indoor mall right off of the ship.

We are also self touring. Our plan is to cab to Plaza Hildago, and walk along the Malecon from there. Two churches, the walk of statues, the Naval Museum, and of course all the Malecon shops and restaurants are along the way. We're going to continue down to Parque Hildago where there are lots of handcrafted mosaic benches. Finally we are doing a tequila tasting and cabbing back to the ship. I figured the walking portion to be about 1.5 miles. It's unfortunate our ship leaves so early, there's lot more that there's just no time for!

There is definitely stuff to do within short walking distance off the ship. HOWEVER, PV is one of my favorite ports with the best and absolutely breathtaking excursions. If it’s in the cards, I highly recommend an excursion.
