Progreso (Merida), Mexico Port Reviews

This port is a looooong way from town so either cab or excursion is the way to go. We did an excursion to see ruins at Ake and tubing in cenotes. It was one of the best excursions we’ve ever done. Tour guide was great. There also was a photographer on this excursion since water was involved but prices were far more reasonable. A good 2/3 of our tour bought them.

We didn't do an excursion here. Instead we leasurly got off the ship around 10:30am, took the free shuttle to a bus garage, got on the $10 city tour (45 min), then walked 3 blocks to the public beach. PRO TIP:Vyou can get a one hour massage on the beach for about $25. I didn't do it but heard it was amazing. Probably better than the $250 one I paid for on the ship. (would not recommend)

We were overcharged at one of the port stores. When we went back to dispute, the lady tried to only give us 10.00 back and take away some of our items. I stood my ground and she gave the items back. We were still overpaying, but we let it go. When we returned home, we saw that she had actually triple charged us...was supposed to only be 24.00 and she charged our card 65.00. She had done it to others as well. We are now having to dispute the charges. It is the store that has all kinds our nick knacks right before you get on the bus to go to town. Exporian I think it's called. Cash is KING and it really sucks that it was one of the port stores.

We were unable to port at Progreso due to unsafe conditions (cartel).

Surprised by this stop as it was quite different from most. There was free shuttle service to the town as it is way too far to walk to. Nice public beach. Be prepared for the locals to try and sell you everything possible.

We took the excursion to Chichen Itza. It was well worth it. Truly one of the 7 modern wonders of the world.

This port is too commercialized. Once you get on the bus and into town, before you get off You're being sold stuff. The minute you step off the bus they're in your face trying to sell you. You try to be polite but they're very aggressive....even on the beach. I will not be going back to this port.

This tour we did was amazing. It was the cave swim with lunch through Carnival. The ride there was long but worth it.
