Port is a long ways away from town. There is some shopping right at the dock otherwise you have too catch a bus into town. We did a bus tour too Chichen Itza. Long bus ride but the bus was comfortable. Enjoyed riding through some of the villages. Our guides were good and friendly. Chichen Itza was impressive, although all the vendor's was a little off putting. You are mobbed by pushy hat vendors when you get off the bus.

Progreso to me was scary. You always have to on your guard there, my cousin her husband had a backpack on well this man came out of nowhere getting extremely close to him he was trying to get his bag until someone in our party yelled out his name to get his attention

We went to Chitchenitza (not sure how to spell it) that was fantastic! The drive in was great, the port itself looked a little... industrial. Until you went down that long wanna be pier and saw the shops :)
