Would love to know why Carnival has built this crude "port" and is making passengers taxi into Playa Del Carmen

Calica is just a dock. You have to pay to go elsewhere. We went to Playa del Carmen, which was nice enough, but we live in Florida, and it honestly wasn't a whole lot different. The water was ice cold (it was December, after all!). We enjoyed wandering around the shops and stuff, but most of them had the exact same things. We didn't eat there as we were concerned about getting "turista". We did have wine and beer at a little restaurant/bar on the beach, which was nice. There was a nice little park by the beach where the kids could play.

This was not really a good entrance of Mexico; more like an freight ship port

Use a excursion for Calica. We took a taxi for a ride to town and felt we missed the better parts

About 15 minutes by taxi from the ship, this is a small, overall dirty area with nothing unique to offer for shoppers. It wasn't worth the time & money to get off the boat.

the restaurant far away from calle 5 have better and authentic Mexican food and less expensive than the ones on the strip. Don't worry about the water, drink sodas or bottled water.
