Yes, it is a scenic port. You can walk along the promenade past architecturally beautiful mansions to Getxo and the UNESCO World Heritage Transporter Bridge (great views from the top). There is a beach area/park and the other direction from the ship is the old fishing port with good tapas restaurants.

Been a very long time since I have been but I got the train to Bilbao. It wasn't far from the Port and takes around 15/20 minutes.

I've been twice in the last 7 months, and I always enjoy a walk along the beach.
