Greenock (Glasgow), Scotland Port Reviews

Greenock is a small town with a shopping centre but is really the gateway to Glasgow. Just walk straight to the station as you leave the ship and get a return ticket to Glasgow ( about 30mins away). We found the station hard to find last time- just look for the tower and head towards that as its just behind it- or ask a local. Glasgow is lovely- last time we hired bikes on the river for a hour and rode up and down towards Glasgow Green ( a lovely park) in which is the Peoples Palace museum ( sadly temporarily closed for renovations) . This time we walked the mural trail heading up to the cathedral and hospital museum, also the wonderful Victorian graveyard high above both. Walked back down and had a beer at the Drygate Brewery as we finished the trail. Great shopping in Glasgow too.

We did a hop on hop off tour. You can get the train into Glasgow very easy. We waited until about 930 to go so it was off hours for he train. Round trip tickets for two were 13 pounds. The train takes you to the Central Station which is 2 blocks from Buchanan street. This is the main area closed to vehicle traffic and all pedestrian. Shops, pubs and cafes.

Port Is In A Very Industrial Area So Not Much To Do Other Then A Couple Parks With Art Statues Around. Short Train Ride(40 Min) Away To Glasgow Which Is A Great City To Explore & Had Hop On Off Bus! If Lucky See A Football Match While In Port👍 Or Take A Longer Train Ride (2 Hours)Out To Edinburgh Which Has Amazing Castle Along Which 1300 Medieval Town! Plus You Visit Coffee Shop Where Harry Potter Books We’re Written & Walk Around Grave Yard To See Names That Influenced Some Of The Characters! Walk Around Looking At Buildings Architecture While Listening To Bagpipes Play! Can Go To New Edinburgh Area For Lots Of Restaurants, Bars, & Shopping! And Both City’s Have A Hard Rock Cafe For The Music Lovers & Pin Collectors! Enjoy Your Time Exploring!

We met my wife’s grandparents for the day. We live 20 miles or so from the port, at the time I worked along the road from Loch Lomond, & I’ve been to Glasgow too many times to remember. So we met them & got a cup of tea! But in reality I would recommend heading either to Glasgow city centre & getting on one of the hop on hop off buses! If you are lucky enough to get good weather, you will have a cracking day! Either that or head up the side of the beautiful Loch Lomond! The scenery is 2nd to none!

We took the train into the city. To get to the train station you can walk through a mall--buy your water bottles in the Dollar stores in the mall. They were the cheapest water bottles we found the entire trip.

We skipped the drive into Glasgow and did one of the highlands tours instead, which was a great decision! We especially enjoyed stopping at the woolen mill and seeing the herding dog demonstration. The scenery is dramatic and stunning!

Not great, if you don't have an excursion booked probably better to grab a bus, or train to Gourock, if the weather is nice you can walk (30 to 40 mins over leven ground, no hills) Gourock has some lovely coastal walks, views, it even has it's very own standing stone "Granny Kempocks stone" up near the church that dominates the hill, good pubs with river views, my favourite is Cleats which is close to the railway station. Nice places to eat also.

The tour to Edinburgh Castle was excellent, and so was the guide.
