One place, imho, not to miss is the Hermitage museum. If I could have done without a guide I could have easily spend two days there

Was left alone for 2.5 hrs. Not good for a level 1. The 2nd was ok.

We did a private tour for two days. The rich history and preservation of the important buildings from the past made me wish I knew more about the history.

Took private full-day tour from SPB tours. Guide and driver were experienced and obviously knew what they were doing. You really need 3 days to see all the major sites. You will need a visa to get of the ship without an organized tour. You need a disembarkation group to get off the ship at this port if you’re doing a non-NCL tour, booked through the screens and box office (couldn’t book in the app.). St. Petersburg is crowded, so a private tour was great.

Booked an excursion through Shipmate app. Thank you to Anastacia who was excellent and no reflection of the star rating. I awarded it two due to the visa situation and the obsessive passport being stolen patter by Royal Caribbean staff. Not a great way to put guests at ease.

You need an excursion or private tour to avoid an expensive visa requirement. You can shop at two stores on the dock without going through passport/tour inspection. There are a few stores in the cruise port. Tour guides are responsible to get you back to the ship, ours frequently when one man disappeared at the very crowded Hermitage museum. He waited for use at the bottom of the stairs on the way out. Lose a passport and you have to get to Moscow. The private imperial churches are rather beautiful.
