As we live in Cornwall we always travel up the day before our cruise and stay in one of Southampton hotels. Tend to arrive early in the morning and make a day of it in the city, visiting the shops and strolling around and the harbour.

I mean, not a huge tourist destination for most, but transit from Heathrow on National Express bus is easy and affordable. Hotels seem plenty and clean. There are sights and things to do as well as good shopping and great restaurants and bars.
