the location was brilliant the whole reason for the cruise, but the schedule was cut and left a bitter taste, this could have been so much more, enjoyed what we did have. we had an excursion had a hike on the Tundra and saw the Husky pups, disappointed with a Local excursion offering a lot and giving nothing back, overpriced High Speed jetboat 5 hours of backbreaking discomfort. You do not always get what you pay for.

This met all the check points of a high adventure! It felt and looked like the dramatic top of the world place that it is. It felt so different than any other port. The town is remarkable for a small community. Very comfortable and interesting.

One of our favorite ports. Take a tour to see the World Seed Vault and around the town. Very fascinating. Tom Cruise just finished filming a movie here. Note, no polar bears in the summer.

Took a private tour with the Henningsen Transport and Guiding boat to a sea stack, Glacier and Pyramiden. an eleven hour tour which included a BBQ at the Glacier, (all drinks were extra) lots of bird, whale and seal sightings. Plus a Polar bear and when we visited Pyramiden, two of us didn't go inside the buildings, we saw an Artic Fox, what a memorable tour. Highly recommend, check them out on Trip Advisor

I signed up for the walrus safari but that got canceled. I ended up on a short tour of longyearbyen because there wasn't much left to choose from by the time my first tour got canceled. Longyearbyen is definitely worth exploring, with or without a tour. You might need a tour to get to where the global seed vault is though. It's outside the town proper and you're supposed to have polar bear protection (i.e. a rifle) to get there.
