Average port. It is a young city so in a couple of years it will be a much better port. Shuttle to city center is ~$8

Another beautiful day, another lovely excursion to see Gdansk, wander its streets and take in the sights. Fascinating to see pictures of the place following the war and what it looks like today. Lots of souvenir shops. Interior of St Mary's Church was really quite impressive when compared to its exterior.

Gdansk was the best surprise of the cruise. Beautiful city. You don't need an excursion here. Just take a taxi and take the free city tour.

We didn’t have anything organised so we got a taxi at the dock who took us around the area. 1st we went to Oliwa Cathedral, it is stunning. It’s one of those churches that puts the fear of god in you. 2nd we stopped in Gdańsk town centre, we had a wonder round, stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe, and I bought my wife an amber necklace. Next stop was solidarity square in Gdańsk. Another spectacular place that makes you feel like you are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. We next went to Sopot and had a walk along the beach which was beautiful. Finally we stopped at the high point in Gdynia and had a great view. Overall it was a great day out and saw a lot. The cost was €75 for a family of 4.

This excursion was called "Discover Culinary & Precious Treasures of Gdansk". We got to tour the city and then went to a cooking workshop where we made pierogis which they cooked and then we ate. I would have liked to be able to eat the actual pierogis we made but they were all put together when cooked so it wasn't possible to identify which were ours. Then we walked to another restaurant to have some nice snacks and try Goldwasser, a strong root and herbal liqueur with actual gold flakes suspended in it that is only made there and has been made since 1598. It was very strong - 40 proof. And the big surprise was that as we left the restaurant each person was handed a big shopping bag with a box containing a large bottle of Goldwasser and 2 of the special glasses that you drink it out of. It was advertised as a "memento" so we were shocked to each receive a full bottle and glasses.
