Not much to do in this 450 person town. We rented electric cars from an independent site (2 hours) and it was perfect for driving to the waterfalls and back (only 30 min away but we spent about an hour there walking around and taking pictures) (7:30-9:30). We walked around the yellow trail, which takes you around some old Viking burial mounds (in some poor farmer’s field) and there are a bunch of little turnoffs. Take them and you’ll come onto this little cliff where you can look down into the port. Got back on the boat around 11:30 or so to eat lunch and warm up in the spa.

I loved this charming port. There is some shopping right in the town where we tendered. Originally, we were scheduled to dock in town. We took a HAL excursion, Eidfjord Cruise & Voringsfossen Waterfall. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the waterfall, it was surrounded in fog but just before we left, the fog cleared and we got some good photos. There is a large souvenir shop at the waterfall and the lovely Fossli hotel located at the far end of the Upper Eidfjord Lake. The cruise in the fjord was wonderful. The sun shone the entire time. .

Beautiful fjord. We did the hike to the Viking burial grounds. You have to go uphill at some point and it's rather steep. The walk along the river is level up until the last 800m of uphill climb to the plateau. Lovely to walk to the lake if you just want to do that and the trail is accessbile if pushing someone in a wheelchair. The pathway is wide and is made of compacted gravel, well maintained when we were there. Should be manageable if dry. This is just a comment from previous experience when traveling with someone who would love to see the sights but mobility impaired. You would not be able to do the uphill then downhill portion pushing a wheelchair in that case take the little troll train, views are beautiful. Buy a gallon of spring water for the boat at the Joker market for about US$5.00.

We took HAL’s “Waterfalls and Nature” excursion. I was not impressed with this. It was scenic, but not worth the money. The waterfall was partially fogged in, which obviously wasn’t their fault, but from what I could see it wasn’t that great to start with. The Sysen Dam was cool. It was really large and “looked like” it was built out of small pebbles. The reservoir was beautiful and there was a lot of interesting tunnel history. The Nature Center was dull, dull, dull, but a great way to spend a rainy day.
