I didn't have many expectations for this port, but ended up really enjoying the tour we booked to Castelmola, Taormina, and the Greek Theater. Charming towns, lovely views, yummy food. And the ship was easy to get to in Messina, so it was an enjoyable port!

Unless you have an excursion booked there's not that much you can do in Messina itself. Nice for a walk round but you couldn't spend all day there

Did not see too much of Messina as we took a bus transfer to Taormina which was beautiful but very crowded.

Again, we did our own walking tour. Visited a couple of the cathedrals and watched the clock tower in the main square for the noon display of the lion roaring and cock crowing and the other animation of the figures in the tower. The tower is within very easy walking distance of the port and worth seeing. Other excursions probably saw more of the island.

go to the Duomo, be there at noon to watch the tower. Do yourself a favor a record the 15 minutes of activity, very impressive.
