Q: Arriving at port for 4pm on a Thursday. Will sites be open?Did not find any excursions that start late enough outside dinner cruises. Is it possible to go inside Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and maybe the Bazaar (closes at 7) on our own? Is the tram the best way to get into the city and do we need to book in advance?thanks for any feedback

A: Consider traffic I doubt it. But you can try. Ages ago we got in about that time. Transfer to hotel room over an hour. Check in and then we were hungry and tired. Didn’t get to do any of that. Oh well. Still great trip. New port is huge getting aroun... d. Best to you.See More

A: Thursdays are not holy days so the city is wide open. However, with a 4 pm arrival the sites will be closed for touring by the time you dock and are permitted to disembark. Consider hiring a taxi for a tour of the city. Also, if you ride the trams, y... ou will need local currency...be sure to have it in advance. If you are a walker, you can walk the harbor area. There are many restaurants and seating to enjoy the view of the Black Sea. Have fun!!See More

Q: Is there a luggage storage facility at the port in Istanbul? We disembark in the morning (ship docks at 7am) and our flight home is not until 7pm. We know the airport is a fair distance from the port so we’re thinking of doing a 4 hour excursion from / to port then travelling to airport later. Any advice would be appreciated!

A: We had the same predicament in Dubai. Exited the ship about 9am took an all day VIATOR TOUR and put our luggage in the drivers car. Got the airport at about 9 pm. No problem.

A: We have now found there is indeed luggage storage at the port, Easy Point left luggage service in D block which is great!

Q: Is Istanbul doable without an excursion? We have 3.5 days and are staying close to public transport. Due to mobility issues I do not like following a tour guide.

A: I am going in April and am not that mobile ( can't walk really long distances and especially can't stand around listening). I am going to look to hire a private guide and do something tailored to my interest and abilities.

A: The last time we were there, we got on the hop on hop off bus and did the entire route just to figure out where things were! It was very helpful and it might be something you might like to do also.

A: Spent four days there a few years ago and easily did everything on our own. Don’t miss the Dardanelles cruise but we found the Blue Mosque underwhelming.
