We did a walking tour downtown on our own. It is very easy to take the shuttle bus from the ship’s dock for €1.5 each way. There were plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. It felt very friendly and safe.

Love Chania was there in May this year on a day trip from Gouves . Plenty of nice restaurants & bars nice shops. There is a good Starbucks in the pedestrian area where horse drawn carriages operate. Plenty to do & see here

If you are a cat lover, I would recommend taking cat biscuits on this trip so you can feed the strays. However, there was evidence that local people were feeding them. Went to an amazing taverna on the back streets called the Argo. Lovely family run place serving fresh Greek food and seafood.

We had planned to explore Chania Harbour before spending the rest of the day at a hotel as we had booked a day pass which included lunch. However the time in port changed dramatically. We arrived at 8 am and were meant to leave at 5 pm but it was changed to 2.30 pm which didn’t give us enough time to enjoy the hotel day pass which was really disappointing. We did like Chania though.

We went to Heraklion and saw the Knossos Palace. It was one of the highlights of the trip. It was a long way out there and back but beautiful countryside.
