This is a CITY! I wouldn't have gotten off board without an excursion. We went 4wheeling at a hacienda. The guide was great and the 4wheelers were brand new. The bathrooms were a bit rustic for my taste. The bus ride was about 20 min and the bus was clean and spacious.

Had great time just walking around the town. Stopped at two great foodie spots. One called the "Casa Cortés ChocoBar". The chocolate coquito is a must have. The other was a local spot called "El Jibarito". Great local food here. Do try the pasallitos and the arroz con gandules. The locals were very friendly.

Old San Juan is just that Old, but we really enjoyed this stop. Took Uber to the Fort, $7 per person to get in and your ticket was good for all the Forts. Walked around on our own at our own pace. Pretty cool places to see and visit. Beautiful scenery. Took Uber back to downtown shopping. Lots of shops to look at, locals very friendly. It rained on us that morning but quickly blew over. Weather was nice the rest of the day

We stayed a night in old San Juan at Hotel Cervantes: small, charming, lacking a few chain hotel amenities but right in the middle of old San Juan life. A trolley stop is three steps away, which takes you to El Morro fort. (Yes, you SHOULD tour the fort just to see the many kites flying on the ocean breeze on the open plain.) Coffee shops and restaurants are step away. Caficultura is the place to eat breakfast but get there early as it fills up: small beautiful old building, cappuccino that knocks your socks off, professional staff, delicious everything. You will walk for hours and find something worth seeing around every corner. Particularly loved the San Juan Gate and surrounding streets. The old church there is beautiful.

San Juan was beautiful. We walked, shopped, and had lunch at a quaint little German restaurant right off the square. I only wish we’d had time to visit the beach.
