The cruise island is clean and if it were me just stay there. Once you head into the city it’s a vibe you aren’t asking for. Stick with your groups if you do head off shipping is a short walk. It rained here too.

Hired private cab from Puerto Plata to sky lift to port. Good value. Ship docks at town so you can walk to town.

We got off the ship and stayed at the port complex. We rode the lazy river and got in the pool and tied the swim up bar. It was a rainy day so did t get to do as much as we’d like. The shops area was very clean and had a few cool things to do or restaurants to eat at!

We just stayed at the port and went to the pool and checked out all the shops. The free pool had a DJ and a couple bars including a pool side swim up bar and really was awesome. The DJ was excellent, 10 times better than the ships music and they had dancers and they were excellent too.

We did the excursion interacting with the monkeys. It was a fun experience. The coffee tasting afterwards was nice. They sold coffee, sugar, cocoa and rum after. The prices were approx $4 to $10 higher than in the shops near port so make sure to check before spending. Royal caribbeans staff was disorganized and gave conflicting directions on the excursion and to be completely honest we’re just rude to guests asking questions. Once RCCL staff was out of the way it went well.

This trip, we didn’t get off the ship. On previous visits, we’ve done a shore excursion that took us to Mount Isabel de Torres and its gardens, as well as a city tour. It was all really good and enjoyable. We also have done tubes on the lazy river at Taino Bay - it’s located next to the pool right off the dock at Puerto Plata - it’s free and fun!

The excursion i took was not giving accurate info and were full of shopping and a bit of propoganda. Beach based excursion was 45 minutes at the shore. Stay in the Port, it looked fantastic!
