Nice. Long way to get off the pier and into the market place then a very very long way to get to shore excursion busses. It was terrible. Just going and going. The tour was ok. The beach area chaurwere wonderful but the water was very dirty. Feet only went in and just fora minute.

"Discover Puerta Plata" bus tour. Strange to see all buildings wrapped in barbed wire. We felt safe as a group, but would not wander alone. Lots of locals trying to hustle their wares, which was intrusive.

We did a Buggy and Horseback riding excursion with Mega Adventures which were quite enjoyable. That took most of our time so we didn't really get to spend much time otherwise checking out the local culture (but that's always an issue with Caribbean ports, isn't it? Always too short of a time in each port!)

Wonderful stop. Did another walking tour. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I would have loved the dolphin, sea lion or stingray excursion but did not want to spend 4 hours in a water park after a 45 minute encounter with the dolphins or other mammals. Made no sense. They should have offered options that excluded the water park.

We did the waterfall hike which was fun however there were too many people on this excursion over the holidays and we froze in the water waiting for our turn.

Outside of the cruise terminal the town is a bit downtrodden and poor. Locals tend to throw trash out onto the street with little regard.
