My husband and son did the horseback riding. My son loved it, my husband said it felt like a kiddie rid and was kind of boring. My daughter and I did the village tour, which I thought would be a Dominican Republic replica, but was actually a replica of an Italian Roman Village. It was fine, quite pretty, but not what I expected. We enjoyed shopping in the few tiny boutiques there and bought a few souvenirs.

The people are friendly and very proud of their country (compared to what they think of Haiti). Explore the city. See the big "department" store on the main street (left from the port) to pick up stuff you missed. Walk up the hill to the big Catholic church and there are lots of vendors.

Either book an excursion or stay aboard. We went into town and turned around and left within minutes. The people are aggressive and continually hound you for money. It was non stop. The bus drops you in a park full of vendors. It's like walking through a gauntlet of aggressive beggars. Worst port I ever visited.

This place is amazing if you take an excursion. If you don't, you will be disappointed and might as well stay on the ship unless you don't have the drink package and want to get some drinks in. The shopping in the initial port is lackluster and there was nothing there that would make me want to spend any real time there. On the way back from my excursion, I bought a souvenir and then went right back to the ship. I chose to go snorkeling in Punta Cana and I have to say those are some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. The snorkeling was okay but the highlight of the excursion was just being able to chill on those beautiful beaches and see some of the Dominican countryside. I know some people that did the monkeyland excursion and they were also very happy with the experience. The people that chose to go mud riding also seem like they had a good time. This is a port or you must book an excursion.

We took a tour to a beach... 40 min boat ride each way, shallow pool good for photos, 5 and a half hour tour with very good buffet on the beach included. Eladio was a good director. The tour description said there was no food, but there was a great buffet.
