There's really not much to see her unless you take a private taxi and head out into the Dutch AND French side of the island. The pastries on the French side and hot tea/coffee are scrumptious and worth the trip. You have to experience the planes flying low over the beach as they come in for landing at the small private airstrip!! Shopping at the pier is a good bargain especially the Linen shop!!

St Maarten is still getting back on it's feet after the hurricane hit a couple of years ago. There are many signs of refurbishment and rebuilding going on, but it still has a ways to go. Overall a good port.

Spent the day on the beach at Grand Bay. Took the water taxi for $7 all day. Spent $25 for two chairs and an umbrella plus 5 sodas or water. Beer instead of soda would be $30. Bargain and you might do better. Don't bargain and you could do worse. The couple next to us paid $35.

Our excursion was cancelled last minute so we visited the small shopping area only. My daughter had her hair braided (really cute) and the price was given up front and reasonable.

I always love St. Maarten. We just lay on the beach all day in front of this little restaurant/bar. The most annoying thing is having the ladies walk up and down your beach chair line ALL DAY LONG asking you to buy something. forget trying to get any relaxation or rest! It is beyond ridiculous. We walked along the streets but it's not the cleanest place. We did take a $2 taxi ride (instead of the guys trying to get you to take the $30/pp ride around the island). We got the Maho taxi and it took us to Sunset beach where you can see the planes come right over head. I would definitely recommend this!

Loved this port in 2004 when we stopped! Not sure how well the community is faring since the hurricanes. They are in our prayers. We found a bar on the beach to dry drink and people watch from. One of my most memorable ports!

This was a wonderful port visit. We booked a tour through Shipmate that took us to the French side for a beach visit and then to Mayo Beach. Our driver was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the island.

Again, beautiful destination. We went to Mahu beach and watched the planes land. It was completely overcrowded and no drink service (Sunset bar was packed so we didn't hang out there) BUT it was still one of the coolest things to see, the water was fun to just hang out in, and we enjoyed the day there. If you have kids maybe ages 6-20 I would definitely recommend...they loved it. If no kids or younger, maybe a quick stop there just to see it and then off to one of the other beaches that aren't as crowded....

We were briefly there, but what we seen was beautiful and the beaches and people were beautiful. We also got to watch Billy Goats walking down the steepest hill ever.
