We had a wonderful time at the Sunset Bar near the airport. Lots of fun and good food. We did not take a tour, and we didn't get any shopping time.

I didn't care for the shopping areas in St. Maarten. Seemed kind of seedy and, after visiting St. Thomas, I'd skip shopping in St. Maarten. We took advantage of the close location of the Great Bay Beach - immediately adjacent to the cruise ship docking location and enjoyed a full day of convenient and crowd-free, though not remote, sand and surf. Prices were fair for the activities (jet skis, water trampolines) that we tried.
